Hi, do you know if the NHS LSF or NHS bursary is required to be repayed, or just a bursary you are eligible to?

The training grant element of the NHS LSF is a grant not a loan so won't need to be repaid (unless you drop out part way through a course and have received an overpayment at the time you drop out).

The NHS bursary is for medics and dentists. What course are you applying for?

Okay. As you are going to study DR and in England, you should be eligible to apply for the NHS Learning Support Fund (not the NHS Bursary). Full details here:

You should be able to apply for the bursary of £5,000 as it's on the list your diagnostic radiography. Apply via SFE okay.
See below for what courses are egible for funding.......

woukd I still apply through SFE if I am not taking a loan out for uni?
Original post by normaw
The NHS LSF is only available if you will be studying at a uni in England. If you want to study in Wales, then you can apply for the NHS Wales bursary. Currently, diagnostic radiographers are eligible for an annual training grant of £5,000 per year plus an extra specialist subject payment of £1,000 per year. You will also be able to claim back travel and accommodation expenses associated with placements. For students starting in Sep/Oct 2024, applications will open in March 2024 and you apply directly to the NHS LSF (not your student loan body). If you're already studying DR, you have to apply within six months of the start of your course.

Hi, will I be able to claim back accommodation expenses if I go to a uni far from home? Thanks

You don't apply to SFE for the NHS LSF, you apply to the NHS Business Services Authority. You need to show that you are eligible for SFE funding, even if you decide not to take out the loan.

No. The NHS LFS only covers the additional accommodation expenses you might incur for placements. It doesn't cover uni acommodation.

The NHS lsf states that they take non- loan students on a case by case basis which makes me wonder if the probability of non loan students getting a bursary is lower

I doubt it. The NHS LSF is an incentive scheme to ensure students are supported through their degree to encourage them into the NHS. They do make exceptions for valid reasons (for example, if you can't take the loan due to religious beliefs). Email them and ask what they require you do to apply without SFE finance.
