I really hate school at the moment will it get better?

Lately I've just been really having school I don't know what happened ed but the culture is just so toxic. If someone gets picked on they just go and pick on someone else. The smallest things can get you picked on like making eye contact with someone or looking at someone for a bit too long, or sometimes for no reason at all they're just bored. Anything that makes you stick out at all is something to pick on like being unusually tall or having a loud voice. It's really horrible. I physically can't talk particularly loudly at school because I'm so scared it's fine at home I don't know what I'm supposed to do school never used to be like this and it isn't just me this is happening to it's everyone what should I do? Does it get better?

Hi,

That does not sound like a very nice environment to be in and I am very sorry you are experiencing this type of behaviour.

Unfortunately it is not very uncommon. A lot of schools particularly secondary schools does have this type of culture as you would describe it. It is most down to the age of the students, everyone feels like they’re being watched. So when it comes to how they behave it is very much down to how they will end up being perceived by others. Most teenagers are usually quite insecure, one way to make people look the other way is by picking on others. Whether schools do enough about this is completing different issue.

I promise it does end. Once you leave school you realise how relatively insignificant your time at school was and the things that seem like they are consuming your mind now, won’t even cross your mind soon.

I did not have the best time at secondary school or at sixth form really, but now I am at university my experience with education has completely changed for the better. Part of my course allows me to unpick my educational experience and reflect on it.

I hope you’re able to look past the actions of people and understand it has absolutely nothing to do with you and everything to do with them and how they feel about themselves.

Wishing you all the best
