hi, i am african & i know lancaster doesn't have a very high percentage of black students but I'm curious to know if they're any shops close by to the uni that sell ethnic food like plantain, yam etc

Theres a place in Lancaster city where most of the food shops are. Its called ''Rose of Sharon'' . I think they are on facebook. it could well worth contacting them there to see what foods they do 🙂

Hi guys! The Lancaster community seems so amazing. Sooo friendly and positive. Thinking of firming Lancaster for Physics( going to decide very soon as suddenly got an unexpected late offer for Edinburgh and this threw a spanner in the works. Are there any practice rooms, studios etc in colleges for students who don’t study music? - very keen musician (mainly guitars classic and electric) Where do bands gig?
Also in the scenario that Lancaster is insurance instead of firm choice is there still a guarantee of a place in a college? If so, will the choice of college, room type etc be deprioritised and you have to take whatever is left over? Just wondering.
Also for catered halls, when you’re eating at one of the larger places, is it restricted options eg hot breakfast or cereal but not both? I don’t understand the catered hall system too much. It’s a bit different to other universitty catered halls which have their own dining room, right? If any light can be shed on that too it would be great!
Sorry for long post!
Thank you😊😊😊

Hi, I've applied for theoretical physics with mathematics (I wonder if anyone else here has applied for it) Lancaster is my firm choice and I'm incredibly excited to attend

Hi @Veritas12

Congratulations on your offer! I completed the mphys (integrated masters) but in straight physics rather than TPM. I am now studying for a PhD here too. If you have any questions about Lancaster Physics feel free to ask here.

I have an offer for a PhD in Education and Social Justice, can i book onto the open days for the undergrads, and are the societies and SU, etc likely to be there? My PhD is online, so looking at ways to get involved in actual campus life.

Hi @jmachin6,
Congratulations on your PhD offer. There are some Post Graduate open days that go on throughout the year, however i don't believe there is any coming up soon. So, if you want to experience what campus is like then an undergraduate open would be a good experience, however the graduate college facilities wouldn't be open to look around. Alternatively, if you want to see some of campus, you could book a campus tour Campus Tours - Lancaster University.
Societies are a great way to get involved with campus life, and Lancaster has a full range of options. The full list of societies that are available at Lancaster are on this link. Groups @ Lancaster Students' Union (lancastersu.co.uk)
If you have any more questions, feel free to ask!

Hi @flyingpiper26
I applied for part time jobs at Lancaster a few months after starting university, to allow time to settle in. The university has a really useful careers website called ERS which post all of the part time jobs available on campus on their, including working in cafes and bars on campus and ambassador work ect. Also, the careers service are really helpful and i'm sure they would help you look for part time jobs and check through your cv ect. The ERS website is here Vacancy Search Results - Lancaster University’s Employment and Recruitment Service (lancaster-university.co.uk)
Hope this helps!

Hi @stargirl28

If you plan to start an undergrad degree from this October you will get an email inviting you to the accommodation application portal in June.

Hope that helps!

Hi @katecookson

Yep that's right. If you have accepted an offer to start on an undergrad course this autumn then you should get an email inviting you to apply for accommodation. You'll have until the 10th August to submit your application.

Thanks
