Ive got a set that does a non-assessed open day for the people on the offer / reserve list.
Has anyone had this happen before? do you know if they tell you whereabout you are on the list?

Sounds like a tip-off to me -- congrats! Which chambers is this?

Nope, but I would imagine that it probably is assessed hahaha

Can anyone share resources on practising ethics questions?

There’s a sample Bar Course ethics paper on the BSB website - we used it on the BPC for revision. It is a couple of years old now but it might be useful!

St Philips business and property interview

Please can I get some advice as to what questions people were asked last year and how did they navigate the interview to proceed towards the second round successfully?

I also had a less than ideal interview and felt the whole thing was incredibly rushed and just an exercise in how many of us they could get through the door. I was interrupted 30 seconds in to my presentation about rebuttals that I was about to address and was then told that ‘I’d had my 3 minutes’ when it had all been taken up by a member of the panel!!!!! The same guy then continued to ask me very basic questions about myself that were on the first page of my application (surprised that I had two Inns of court scholarships, degree classification etc) so obviously hadn't even had a quick flick through it. Absolute waste of time for me personally, worst interview I've had by a mile. it seems like it all depended on the panel you got!

Omg this happened to me too!!

Has anyone heard from one pump court (1PC)? Have they just ghosted everyone? Or does anyone know when they got back to people last year? There's literally no info on their website as to when pupillage interviews would even be held

It is usually very late and they do FRI and SRI in same weekend

Do you think you can ever tell you have absolutely failed an SRI? Any stories of people who thought they had failed but didn’t 😭

I've heard stories of people thinking they bombed an SRI and getting an offer

They were late last year as well - they won't ghost everyone.

There was a candidate that we had last year who said to us (the panel) at the end of her second round interview that she’s so disappointed in herself because she knows she’s better than the performance she just gave. And it wasn’t perfect. But then she’s just started her second six with us, so it also wasn’t as bad as she thought it was. It’s notoriously difficult to accurately assess your own performance in an interview.

Out of curiosity has anyone had any difficult ethical questions this year? I have personally found them to be a lot more challenging than previous years.

Yes FRIs have gone out

Was it a personalised email? My gateway still says “in process” I’m assuming it’s RBS

I didn’t apply this year but last year yes it was personalised email, and they are notoriously RBS

No… barristers don’t shake hands. Never had anyone go to shake mine at interview.

Just had my first FRI at Doughty Street Chambers yesterday and the 2 person panel both stood up whenI entered the room and bent over the round table to shake my hand... so I guess it seemingly can depend - just follow their lead on that one I would say!

I don’t know about you guys but I struggled with the 5 year plan question. I won’t go into detail but I felt I was wrong for saying that I expected to learn a lot during pupillage and build a niche in accordance with what I was good at, enjoyed and was available in chambers (obviously having expressed passion for criminal law). Should I have said I want to specialise in sexual offences or something else? Would love some advice on how to approach this in the future x
Enjoyed the debate question

I actually got this question at another Chambers and I basically used a 2-pronged approached based on if I were to get pupillage with them or not - I think they liked the things I said I would do in both scenarios (ie continuing to be an ex-offender mentor, so demonstrating my commitment to criminal law/client care etc) + think they enjoyed that I had specific things/roles I said I were to do if I weren't to get pupillage (ie showing them I have a plan laid out and not just being solely dependent on chambers if that makes sense -obvs My personal opinion) + I got offered SRI with them so seems it was fine!!

Did anybody ask when Garden Court (general) would inform us about the outcome of the FRI?
