Hey! just an update, i will be rejecting my offer from the RVC, it breaks my heart but they said they cannot defer my entry to 2025 unless i get the CCC grades in my alevels THIS YEAR, i was going to resit 2 alevels but im refunding these as i think i will not get CC in bio and chem. Instead i am going to do an access to higher education course which gives me a guaranteed interview with Bristol university for 5 year vet med course. Just remember there are so many ways to get into vet med! Hopefully my offer will be passed to someone who needs it more ❤️ (i also followed you on insta haha)

Well done on your offer! And it’s so cool hearing people take different routes because it can feel hopeless when the typical one doesn’t work out <3 the Bristol thing sounds awesome + I’ll follow you back now, this chat has been so great for meeting other aspiring vets, fingers crossed other people also have other great opportunities and reject it too lol!

I know Surrey might not be your 1st choice but would still be worth putting it as your firm & bio vet as your insurance, the grade isn't completely unachievable!
I don't know about the gateway waitlist but mines been offered a place on the 5 year so they do try to get people on.

Yeah I’m still thinking but I do feel I will most likely reject Surrey, that’s very hopeful, I’m glad she was accepted 😁

Has anyone who is going to reject their offer rejected it?

Hi all I have applied for the gateway to veterinary med for RVC, anyone know what are the chances of being accepted after an interview in comparison to the standard 5 year course to vet med at RVC. Are there less/more places available?

hi how did it go? and what are your grades/work experience?

If it makes you feel better i havent heard anything, although gateway are only just giving out interviews (i only applied to gateway) Im guessing they are more likey to give you an offer for the D100 as there is only 50 spaces on the gateway, GOOD LUCK!

Hi 🙂 what work experience and what grades did you apply with?

For the gateway you don’t need any work experience but it will help as they ask about it during the interview and makes you stand out. The grades needed for the gateway are always CCC and I’m pretty sure you need to do both bio and chem a level, they have some Ctech options too if I remember correctly:smile:

In terms of grades I had an A*AA predicted with A* for Bio and A for Chemistry and English Literature. I did my interview for the 5 year but applied to both.
In terms of work experience I had 70 hours of experience in a vet clinic and around 150 hours at a local city farm (I went for 5 to 6 hours every Tuesday for 7 months)

I applied to both the 5 year and gateway course, so I had in total about 300 hours of work experience and predicted grades AAB in bio chem and psych, didn’t get into the 5 year course tho lol! But so so so so so grateful for the gateway!

I have set up 2 weeks of clinical, 1 week equine, 1 week exotic, few days in lambing/pig farming combined. I don’t know what I will get grade wise as my AS exams have not been good . Do you think I stand much chance of getting in? And what questions did they ask during your interview

Ahh I see, I thought you could only apply with the highest of ABB for gateway year, what course did you get into?

Sounds like great experience! Don’t worry about AS grades too much I don’t think many peoples are reflective. Watch some videos on vet MMI interviews if you’re curious but if very early on in the game to be thinking about  you have to get the interview first lol, I’d focus your time on extracurriculars, reading books surrounding animal biology and making sure you write down all about your experience so you can not only have a great personal statement but a lot ready to use for the supplementary questionnaires they ask when you first apply.

There are no max grades for the RVC gateway, you can apply with Cs or A*s, you just need to ensure you fit the widening participation criteria.

My daughter has also applied for gateway at RVC, we've not been able to find acceptance rates but believe there is 50 spaces, I imagine it's highly competitive.
She's also applied to D100 & has an interview soon, we're assuming the 1 interview will cover both applications.

Hi do you know what your daughter got grade wise and work experience she had, just trying to get an idea of what the acceptance rate is like

I think a while back someone put in a picture of the amount of applications vs offers for all RVC courses. I could find it again if you would like it.
In terms of how likely it is that you personally get accepted, the gateway course looks less at grades and not at work experience but your circumstances e.g if your parents went to uni, household income etc and gives you 'points' based off that which determines if you will progress to the interview stage or not
