how to get into literature and writing

I am very interested in literature and I have always wanted to write however I don't know where to start and I lack the skills for it. I am interested in reading and I do read a lot especially classics. I have the skills to write an analytical essay but I just cant write a story especially for creative writing.

Can anyone offer help?
