University of Liverpool for study year abroad?

I'm currently taking Education with a specialization in English Literature in Canada. I'm interested in doing a study year abroad in the UK and am looking at the University of Liverpool. I'd like to know anything about the student experience there. Which halls are best to apply to if you're looking to meet people, but you're not a fresher (I'll be in my 3rd year of uni). I like theater and would be interested in joining a Drama society or maybe a choir group. Are there halls that are better for that or is that available through SU societies? And what is the city like? Does the uni arrange activities for international students? Thanks in advance!
