I definitely think watching the film will help - even for me rereading the book after watching the film was so much easier!

I'll watch it when I have time and I dont want to do any revision. then I'll read the book eventually after. its why i nominated it for the feb book of the month bc ik i will probs avoid reading it otherwise lol

omg, i'm actually ridiculous😳 i have a whole book diary but i haven't updated a single bookish thing for more than two weeks?? lock me up🤧 but on a more serious note, this thread isn't going to be getting frequent updates for me since mocks has been a wake up call‼ and i'm trying to put my head down for the next three months to maximise my academic capabilities and just aiming for a good result at the end of the year. but even still, i'm hoping to update on here every once in a while🤞💖

also side note: all the stars, kendrick + sza, is stuck in my head😩. you love this song = i love u🤭

Don’t worry, I consider myself an avid book worm but only read 3 books this year (I’ve still got like 100 pages of Daisy Jones…). I went from reading 40 books a year to reading 11 last year. GCSEs are mean. But do update us when you read a good book!

heyy everyone!
i'm back with another book review🤗
so long story short, once upon a broken heart has been on my tbr for SOOO long and i finally decided to sort it out and pick up the book. but thennn, i was on tiktok and the whole caraval series saga came up. and i thought, oh? i should probably read caraval trilogy before ouabh, so i did. and it was quite a good read.

CARAVAL : STEPHANIE GARBER
genre: fantasy/romance
age rating: 13+
characters: 3/5
plot: 4/5
overall rating: 3.5/5

You might be wondering why I'm going back on my word by saying that Caraval was a worth it read, but only giving it a 3.5 stars. well the thing is, i don't want to just throw in a 4/5 just now since i know this book is part of a bigger inter-linked storyline, so it did make me step back a bit and decide the number a bit more sensibly.
I did love the characters, though they were nothing special (in my opinion). many may love them, but for me i just liked them. that's literally all i felt.
The plot of this story was pretty decent too and the world building and just idea in general is unlike any other book i've ever read before. the plotline, at least to me, seems completely original and thus why it was such a fun book because it's unique and fascinating.
Writing, as far as I'm concerned, was pretty well done. I mean, it had me hooked from the beginning and recently I've tried picking up a lot of books that just didn't have this allure to them and i just ended up leaving them for later. (i'm taking about acotar (yes i retried but to now avail😔) and powerless (i know, i deserve some jail time for this comment. but i'm going to try again, i promise) 😭). I don't even know how to explain this, but I'm just so picky. and when i first went into this, i genuinely went in with an open mind yet i was still hesitant. but coming out of it, i don't regret my decision one bit!
The romance was a bit iffy for me. I don't have a problem with it since I'm only guessing the romance is a subplot from what i've understood?? but i feel like scarlett and julian just had more potential that could've possibly been explored a bit more??? I liked their storyline and development though, it was cute🤭 and another tiny thing to most, but extremely AHHH thing to me, is the fact that he has a nickname for her that he uses more than her actual name. for me, book men like that are 🔛🔝 julian was just that guy.
The plot twist at the end was plot twisting though, that's all im gonna say (but before people actually quote me on this if they ever read this, it not a major plot twist. just a fact that blew my mind a little🤣. actually no i take hat back, it was pretty good since i didn't clock on to it AT ALL. tella fooled even me.)
With all that, I'm actually really excited to get into the second book, which i knw no longer focuses on scar but her sister tella! and i'm really happy about this actually because tella for sure has a BIG story to tell.
For recommendations, I'm not sure. YET. i'm just refraining for loving this book because as I've said previously, caraval comes as a 3 part series, and tbh there's been many stories where the first book has been amazing and then from there onwards it just📉
I'm keeping my fingers double crossed that this is not the case for caraval, but i do have the faith in stephanie that she's done the next book justice!
I'll see you all next time for LEGENDARY!
Have a lovely day xx

Great reviews here!! If you haven't read it already, please read A Court of Thorns and Roses. It's spread out over 5 books, 18+ and if you enjoy fantasy / romance then you'll love it!
