had 2 german lessons, one on andorra and on pros and cons of the eu

chem lesson on condensation polymers - polyesters and polyamides

bio lesson on speed of conduction of action potentials and synapses

free period - started my german presentation about integration of immigrants in austria, as well as my stem cell project for bio

daily anki review - covered a lot of cards, did roughly half an hour

tutored gcse chem for an hour - organic chem and moles

relaxed for the rest of the day

You do so much it's honestly really inspiring. Was wondering how you started tutoring? And do you charge?

thanks !. i don't actually do that much extra work on top of lessons and free periods tbh, though i probably should start doing some more as a levels are coming up. i started tutoring by posting on my town's facebook group, and i do charge yes.

looking at this made me realise my school teaches the chem course very different😭😭😭 no wonder we have already finished chemistry
haven't posted here in a while, mainly due to a lack of motivation and not getting enough work done: a levels are creeping up but still don't seem close enough to pressurise me into working hard. however, i have tried to get some revision in this half term - i've been into the library twice this week to try and focus. i've mainly focused on chem as that was my lowest mock grade, doing lots of calculation work and consolidating period 3 chem that we have recently covered in class. bio i have just been tying up loose ends i.e. the harder questions i skipped when i did my pmt question packs the first time round, as well as making lots more flashcards to consolidate recent work
still have not heard about the outcomes of my med interviews - but uea (my 2nd/3rd choice) has started handing out offers

I wouldn’t worry too much yet, there’s still time! I’d just focus on a levels now, well done on revising this half term!
i now have 2 medicine offers, so i really need to start the a level grind and keep updating this blog to keep me motivated! my uea offer is AAA and my hyms offer is AAB (contextual, if i firm it). here's what i did today:

about half of the 2021 bio paper 1, annoyingly couldnt do some of the questions as the sources got removed due to copyright

finished some thermodynamics sheets (enthalpy of solution and entropy graphs) from way back in autumn

daily anki review for all 3 subjects - 198 cards in 57.38 minutes

made amino acids, proteins and dna anki flaschards using chemrevise notes

made muscles flashcards using pmt and biology with olivia notes

made german vocab flashcards on racism as i have a vocab test on monday

watched a control of blood glucose stream ran by a med student on discord

congrats on your med offers !!
you’re so productive im so jealous 😭 i swear i say i wanna be productive and the moment i get home from school the last thing i wanna do is 100 anki flashcards - how do you get through all the cards without getting bored? 🙏

Yay!! Knew you could do it 🥳

thanks! i think for me, anki flashcards are my favourite form of revision, so it's easier for me to just go and do them, and there's also the pressure of seeing the cards build up if i ever skip a day or don't complete a day's cards which keeps me motivated. after school i don't go straight into revision, i usually unwind a bit first, and to avoid getting bored i switch up the subject for my flashcards every 5 cards - so i'll do 5 cards of bio then 5 of chem then 5 of german, if i have similar numbers to do. also, when i've written down what i've done here it looks a lot, but i've actually just done lots of little bits so not loads in terms of total quantity/time spent.

update: we finished bio content in class like a week ago, and now i've got a topic 6 test tmrw and a topic 8 test on wednesday. we've finished organic and physical chem, just finishing the last parts of transition metals now. german we still have to finish racism and youth politics and probably some more stuff on the film. my first exam (german speaking) is in 52 days, but luckily i have about a month's gap until the next exam after that.
anyways here is what revision i did yesterday:
basically just anki - for german i made some jugendpolitik vocab cards for my vocab test on monday, made some chem transition metals and period 3 cards, and just did my daily review - 2.5 hours total
first week of easter holidays is almost over and luckily i've experienced an increase in motivation, with all this free time on my hands. i've started past papers for both bio and chem - bio paper 1 2017 i got 77%, chem paper 2 2022 i got 82%, and my plan is to intertwine old spec papers with new spec papers so i don't run out. of course anki is still my daily staple, and i'm still making new cards as previously when i made my cards in y12 and start of y13 i just typed out the pmt flashcards, but now i'm using more exam specific resources to really maximise my marks through utilising the correct terminology and hitting all the marking points etc. german i really do need to get cracking with, because i'm still just doing vocab and a bit of grammar, whereas i need to start writing past and possible essays and do loads more stuff for my irp, which i have to present on the 8th of may 😑. the most hours i've revised per day is roughly 5, in total i've done 18.5 hours this week. i still don't have a revision timetable and doubt i'll make one - i just do what i feel needs doing.
ok that was a bit of a chunky post - that's what happens when i don't update my gyg regularly i guess! anyways an update on my uni/med application - still haven't heard back from aston; they said they could take until the ucas deadline 😑, so i haven't firmed york yet but i have decided that's where i'm going to firm. looking at accommodation there - it seems (from the gcs i'm in) everyone is going for the newer ones on campus east, but i don't really mind as long as it's ensuite - most rooms seem to be an upgrade from my home bedroom

good luck with your tasks🥳🥳🥳
i'm back in school now so that means i have more structured revision during the school day, then doing my anki and tutoring gcse students after school. i'm still learning content for german though, and i found out on monday that my irp title isn't specific to the german-speaking world enough, so now i have to pick a completely new topic - i think i will be doing it on 'fruhlings erwachen' (spring awakening), a play. here's what i did yesterday:

double free period to start the school day - did chem paper 1 2017 (physical+inorganic), scored 80% but could've easily gotten into A* territory by revising some of the yr 12 ion tests and for a 6 mark kp question, writing out my working in full.

chem lesson - did our final ever chemistry practical - a redox titration

at lunch did some andorra (the play we're studying in german) vocab on memrise

bio lesson - revising topic 3 (exchange of substances in plants and animals) via recall questions

german lesson - origins of racism, started a 90 word summary of a text

after school - tutored a year 9 student for 1 hour - physics, geography and chemistry

tutored a year 11 student for 1 hour - physics

home - daily anki review for all 3 subjects

finished my german summary

total hours studying (time spent studying at home/in free periods): 3

That's crazy how much you did! Also do you have any tips on how to start tutoring? Hoping to start soon for some GCSE students
