Maintenance Loan

Hi,
I have pre settled status and i have applied to universities for 2024 entry. I have been living in the uk for 2 years and will be 3 years on july before the start of my course.
would i be eligible gor student finance?
Also do eu students not get maintenance loan?
I dont know if this is relevant but my father also lives and works here and has pre settled status and get benefits.

Hi there. If you are an EU student with pre settled status, you can only apply for the Maintenance Loan and be eligible for this if you apply as a Migrant Worker. This means you would need to provide evidence that you work and will continue to work whilst studying. If your father is working here, you can apply as a Child of a Migrant Worker, and instead provide evidence of your fathers employment to be eligible for this. Thanks - David

Hi nemoiiiii,

I can see that you said previously that your dad receives benefits. Is he an EU/EEA national who is employed or does he receive benefits such as Universal Credit?

Thanks,
Calum

Hi nemoiiiii,

Part of the eligibility conditions for Migrant Worker funding (this also applies to Child of a Migrant Worker) is that the Migrant Worker needs to be working at an acceptable level which is generally defined as being financial self-sufficient so if he is also receiving Universal Credit we may not be able to accept your maintenance loan application

In any case, the evidence we will need if you already have an SFE application is evidence of your dad's ID and status which should consist of their valid original passport or national ID card and their EUSS share code; a photocopy of your birth certificate naming your dad for proof of relationship; evidence that your dad is registered with HMRC as self employed (UTR letter, tax return); your dad's last 3 months' invoices and corresponding bank statements; and their most recent tax return.

Thanks,
Calum
