@McGinger - following up on your post about losing your watched boards, are you seeing any watched threads/forums on the homepage currently, please?

For info, Im not. In the last few days, it has worked maybe 10% of the time, but all the watched threads disappear after Ive clicked on any one of them, as above. So even when it works (which is rare), it immediately stops working.

Okay thank you - do you watched topics appear?

Its empty - though I hadnt subscribed to any forums. Ive done so now and it shows stuff, but when you click on it and go back to the homepage, it still shows the same stuff as being "new".

@RainbowLapras My 'Following' section is empty again.

Also, what is the difference between the 'Discussions' and 'Topics' tabs? I can't work out the rationale for the threads appearing in each of them, and neither option relates to the forums I have followed.

Watched topics should be the forums you're following - what are you seeing there currently?

Just checked them all and yes they are forums I am watching (just forgotten that some of them were on my watch list as they aren't the forums that appeared on my old home page or that I check every day). :colondollar:

Haha wonderful, thank you for checking! I'll look into the follower side again for you, apologies that that's not working consistently still :frown:

To give a concrete example, for the empty Watched Discussions, I explicitly clicked "Watch" on the
F38 - A level maths mechanics question
discussion and Ive had notifications about replies and on the subscription (View All) view it says there are unread posts, but the Watched Discussions on the homepage is completely empty (as usual). Ive left it in that state so you can check.

Edit - it should also be noted that the Watched Topics always shows the latest post/thread in that forum, even if Ive posted it as the last post is always a "New Post". I would have expected that this should only really show new threads/posts by others, as obviously I know what Ive posted and what Ive already seen.

So neither the Watched Discussions nor the Topics seems to be working properly?

Scrambled watched threads - no Forums - bring back the old format!

You should have access to your watched forums in the topics tab? Or are you saying that's empty, sorry?

I'll check tomorrow, but I believe the forum widget has always shown the latest post even if it's your own, were you seeing a different behaviour? Just want to confirm this so I know if it's a bug or a proposed change to the feature!

The main point was the watched threads being empty which Id hope would be the thing youd check on and was the reason I took the time to construct an example etc.

For the watched topics, Im not sure what was the behaviour before, but Id have thought the default/useful behaviour would be to highlight new stuff .... On the watched discussions its empty and says "youre up to date" (whether correctly or incorrectly) which I presume means youve looked at / answered them so they are not shown and I thought a similar behavour would apply to the watched topics. But maybe its me. If the behaviour is that it just displays the list of topics/forums and the latest post, then so be it. Though it seems not very useful to have the top topic/thread as being what youve just replied to and when you click on it it shows your reply as being a New Post (above the message) which it isnt because you saw it when you replied.

The behaviour with watched forums was that read ones would show a “read” icon but not disappear from the list.
With watched threads there’s the watched threads page where you can see a full list of all of them. With watched forums/topics the only way to access the full list is on the homepage. I think if the functionality was for topics to only show unread then we’d need an additional freestanding page that just shows watched forums to access the full list (otherwise there’s no way to find out if you’re watching a forum (and unwatch read forums) that’s not in the most recent 5 without clicking into every single subforum to see if it’s “watched” )

@RainbowLapras a specific watched topics page that mirrors the old behaviour might be a worthwhile solution for those of us that navigate the forum this way rather than trying to wrangle the homepage to work for us. It seems like we’re a quite specific (but hopefully valuable to TSR) group focused on helping/answering questions rather than using the site as a 14-18 year old exam student/applicant so I can understand that we’re not the audience TSRG would want to cater the homepage around - but we do need to be able to navigate the site well to provide the answers and support we offer to those standard users.

That has one thread that I asked to be moved. 3 days ago.

Its all such a mess - why was this not tested before being released.

For me, compared to the For You showing few things that are relevant and the Watched Discussions being empty and the back button not working once youve jumped off the homepage, its very much the least important thing.

As noted above though, I cant really see the relevance is highlighting a thread where youre the last person to reply. Tbh, Im pretty much just treating it as a "bookmark" folder list (which has disappeared in many pages) where you have a list of forums and the actual discussion highlighted is irrelevant. Which kinda misses the point but ...

The last post being your own tells you that there are no new posts in that forum.

You said you would prefer to have nothing displayed there, which would indicate you have seen the rest of the forum. The one advantage to having the forum still displaying is that you can follow the link and go into it straight away. This is something I use every day with the personal statement forums. I may have viewed and recently posted in the threads there, but I still regularly need to go back in to complete reviews on threads I've already seen. If that's not available on the homepage I'd struggle to keep running the service.

It probably needs a bit of careful thinking but just because I reply to a thread (maybe from a notification) it doesnt mean theres nothing else of interest slighlty older in that topic/folder. I was simply noting that that behaviour (showing a thread youve read fully/replied to and when you click on it it shows, incorrectly, your reply labelled as a New Post) doesnt really help.

I think that was the point I was making about treating it as a set of bookmarks.

I barely use watched threads but yes please I want the old system to be imported, it’s better than the new one, it gives the information I need (username of last person who posted in N&CA, forum doesn’t disappear even if read etc).
I wouldn’t care if watched threads got scrapped though but I agree with PQ that having something that mirrors the old system should be the way forward.

You only seem to be watching one forum, can I ask what other forums you'd be expecting to see there, please?
