Distance Learning Centre - Medicine

Hi there, I'm a mature student considering doing an Access to HE for Medicine in 2024/5. Logistically the best option for me is delivered online via the Distance Learning Centre. Provided my grades meet the university's requirements will I be at any disadvantage during application? Or is a bricks and mortar provider more respected?

Hi,

I'm in the exact same position! Did you manage to get an answer to this question?

Can I ask how did you find the exams? Were they tough. Did you have a long gap from finishing studying to doing this course.
I am just about to start it

Hiya

I start at BSMS med school on Monday! 😊

I also got offers from Bristol and Exeter for undergrad medicine with this access course, so 100% it can get you into medicine! Just need to make sure the unis you apply to accept access courses and don’t have a requirement for them to be in person. Most that accept access courses accept DLC as the only remote one they’ll take.

Good luck!

Hiya,

Yes they do, and Bristol offer a guaranteed interview for mature students coming from an access course! A good friend of mine who I met on the DLC access course facebook page started at Bristol med school this week, and them offering the guranteed interview was a life saver for her as unfortunately her UCAT score wasn't what she'd hoped so she wasn't able to secure interviews elsewhere, despite being an excellent candidate otherwise.

Best of luck with your journey

Yeah that's what I've heard too
Also do you have any tips for the ucat?
And do you have any tips for the access course on how to achieve all distinctions

Hey there! Do you know what she got on the UCAT? I have a friend that achieved a 1930 Band 2 wondering if this'll be enough for the guaranteed interview (approx 2570-2590 converted to 2024 result)

Hiya

Given the conversion you’ve provided to compare her current score to last years score system, my friends score was lower than that, so your friend should be fine 😊

My score wasn’t much higher than your friend’s (2680 band 1), so was just in the 7th decile, and I got interviews from BSMS (where I am now), Bristol and Exeter and then got offers from all 3!

Good luck to your friend 😊
