Does LSE need Further Maths for a BSc in Finance

Hi,

I’m currently deciding what to do for my A levels and wanted to know if Further Maths was a necessity to get into LSE to do a BSc in a degree like Economics or Finance. I know on their website they say they are happy to consider applicants with maths, FM and an essay based subject (Group 2) (i plan on doing econ, Maths, FM depending on my grades and one more which i haven’t decided yet).

Does anyone have any advice on what to do for the 4th AS, and whether or not FM is strict requirement to get in?

They say its not required but majority of people who get offers take further maths. If you want to maximise your chances of getting into lse, i strongly advise taking further maths if you get the GCSE’s needed.

Quite simply an applicant with further maths has a better chance than someone without it.

It's not strictly necessary. However, for BSc Econ, I would strongly advise it. The course is very maths heavy. Finance, less so. I got into Econ at LSE without further maths, but this year more than a decade ago and I had very strong extracurriculars / national awards etc. I would advise FM because the course literally starts with further maths concepts that if you haven't seen any of these concepts, you may struggle to keep up or spend a disproportionate amount of time learning FM concepts. Econ and Finance are also very different. I would keep in mind what your goal post-uni might be.
