Any books that you hated?

For me, 'The name of the Rose' by Umberto Eco - entire passages in untranslated Latin, a mediocre story, and a plot that has more holes than Swiss cheese! To top it all off, the books 512 pages long. Fun.

As the title says - what is a book you hated? Popular or unpopular, and why?
For me it was Glass Sword, the secomd Red Queen book. I liked the first, the concept was good and enjoyable but by the second the mc had become INSUFFERABLE. She felt no remorse or guilt for what she did, but she'd always go on about her tough life and how she loses every other character. But gets over it? Also I felt no chemistry to either of the love interests - I'm not a love triangle person but both of them were boring.

Colleen Hoover books to be honest. I donโ€™t get the hype on TikTok. For me they just read as romance novels with too much spice and no real plot.

Another unpopular opinion, but i also really donโ€™t like The Hobbit and the Lord of the Ringsโ€ฆ

Classic novels I donโ€™t really mind. My favourite Jane Austen (and the only one I managed to fully read) is Pride and Prejudice, I love that novel and the movie. I couldnโ€™t even finish the first chapter of Emma and Wuthering Heights. I feel like itโ€™s mostly the characters that I hated and found one sided in those books.

Omg why do we literally have the same opinions on books ๐Ÿ˜ญ my favourite Jane Austen is pride and prejudice too haha, though I did get into Emma and Wuthering Heights!
i second divergent, anything colleen hoover, the Spanish love deception, shadow and bone
others that i hated were powerless, fourth wing, acotar(the entire series)(i haven't read any books after the second - genuine trauma), if we were villains, the secret history, the love hypothesis, etc.
if you can't tell, most are overhyped booktok books - lesson learned not to get my recs from there EVER
I'm a hater for life lolll
Controversial because I know it's a favourite for many people but The Tattooist of Auschwitz - I found it completely predictable and basically guessed the whole plot before I was even half way through. Ones that surprised me because I thought I wouldn't like but ended up loving were Where the Crawdads Sing and The Salt Path ๐Ÿ™‚

I have a Colleen Hoover in my book cupboard, yet to start... think my next will be to tackle A Little Life

Unpopular opinion but anything by Sarah Janet Maas.
I really never got the hype, tried a couple books but her writing style feels way too descriptive, I found it unreadable despite everyone recommending it to me.

sammeeeee i literally hate her and everything she writes. that makes me sound awful but i can't put it more politely without being dishonest. i will say though that her books make me cringe so hard i end up hatereading them for the laughs and to angrily annotate them with 'what the heck is this', 'shut up', 'OMG SHUT UP ALREADY', etc. so win win for sjm i guess.

Not the angry annotating ๐Ÿ˜‚
I havenโ€™t read SJM, Iโ€™ve got thrown of glass to read but itโ€™s such a long series idk if I can be bothered too. Also the divided opinions of the internet.

my copy of the 5th book in particular is a MINEFIELD lmao. i hate everything and everyone in the book except for 1 character so my annotations are all like "blehhh" "ew" "i hate you" and then in my fav's few & far between scenes its all like "YAYY POOKIE" and "slay" "go off" ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ my annotations are so unserious
icl throne of glass isn't bad in and of itself it's just the CHARACTERS. i'd go so far as to say that the PLOT, especially of the 3rd book, is actually really good. but there is so little plot per book bc it's full of """""romance"""""" and random stuff that is just plain bad and annoying. i swear the whole series could be condensed into an absolutely stunning trilogy but instead its like 10 books long and i hate it.
i absolutely DESPISE the main character, and the good characters are all painted as bad because of the mc and it's just really messed up from that standpoint. i really can't deal with how the author has treated some of the only characters with any humanity- it's not even the mc's own opinion being portrayed or something, she really genuinely expects the audience to think of these characters as bad and its literally painful. so when your protag is vile and your likeable characters are always being snubbed and painted in a bad light then of course the book itself is gonna be affected.
also its SUPER CRINGEY and just gets cringier the further you read. its all about that "bada** heroine" and every single disgusting annoying trope that comes with it that makes me want to crawl out of my skin and cry. im on the fifth(?) book i think and it doesnt seem to be stopping anytime soon. i just want justice for my fav character so ima keep reading bc he does get his own book later and i jsut wanna read that frankly.
