Hey, congrats on receiving an interview invitation! I had an interview for the Fundamental Mechanisms of Disease theme. Regarding the presentation (they asked us to prepare a 3-min presentation regarding one of our research projects), they asked me questions mostly on data interpretation - such as what do you think underlies your findings and then based on my answer, they asked me to explain how I could test my hypotheses. This was followed by a subset of the predictable PhD interview questions - such as if you had unlimited funds what would you like to study, suggestions for potential supervisors for the rotations, difficulties you faced so far in your research studies, etc. Hope this helps and best of luck with your interview!

Nope, nothing yet - good to know it's not just me! I'm a home student - interviewed on 21st.

I interviewed for a BBSRC programme the same day as well, and haven't heard either way from them either.

Best of luck for your applications!

MRC stands for Medical Research Council - it is the government agency that funds the DTP - the Doctoral Training Programme. If you're looking to study in a PhD programme, start out looking for the acronym DTP which may be preceded by other acronyms, such as MRC, BBSRC or NERC, which are indicative of the funding body - it's important to look up the remit of these funding bodies to understand whether your research interests align with theirs. For example, BBSRC does not fund research into human diseases, only healthy human functions, whereas MRC does - so if you're interested in neurodegeneration or cancer, for example, MRC-funded programmes are a good place to look at.

I hope that helps!
