How many days would I be on campus?

I’ve been trying to find this everywhere but can’t find it. I will be studying fine art in university and I’m trying to find out how many days I’ll be on campus to work out weather I should just travel daily or move closer/into uni accommodation

Hey,

Annoyingly this will really vary from uni to uni, even from semester to semester/week to week. You could reasonably expect to be in 3-5 days a week, but sometimes this will not be for the whole day. Maybe it’s worth contacting the uni itself (course director maybe?) / trying to find current students you could talk to? They may be able to give you a better idea and also an idea of how it’s differed over time!

I’m a commuting student myself and personally found commuting 4/5 days a week really frustrating as it will take up so much of your time where you could be focusing on individual study. but, when it’s been less (1-3 days a week) it’s been much more manageable.

Best of luck with everything!!

Hiya

the uni would probably take quite long to respond so I'd suggest getting in touch with students on Unibuddy or UCAS and asking them- they're much more likely to respond!

Hey there 😀

The university timetable can vary significantly depending on the institution. At De Montfort University (DMU), our schedule typically involves on-campus attendance three to four times a week, with approximately 10 to 15 hours of timetabled taught sessions. If you would like to read more about the Fine Art course, you can access the information here.

Speaking from my own experience, I find living in university accommodation to be immensely rewarding. It has taught me independence, introduced me to wonderful people, and offers the convenience of proximity to both campus and the city centre. Leicester itself is a standout feature, as its affordability makes student living accessible and enjoyable, with accommodation prices starting at around £90 per week.

Nevertheless, I also recognise that many students commute, which can also be a viable and enjoyable option. The university provides ample socialising opportunities and spaces on campus, allowing commuting students to engage with friends and make the most of their time between and after classes. Hence, I recommend that you make your final decision based on your individual preferences and financial circumstances.

I hope it was helpful 💪 Feel free to reach out if you have any questions 😉 You can also chat with me or other students directly through The Ambassador Platform.

Take care,

Hi,

I would recommend contacting the course admin team to ask for clearer guidance on this as each university and each course is slightly different. I know in our university a lot of courses attend 3 days a week but other courses are in 5 days a week but for shorter days. It really does vary from course to course and university to University.

I hope this is of some assistance,

Hey @wishiwashi !

I don't know exactly which universities you've applied to, but I currently study Fine Art here at Kingston. From what I know, most Fine Art programs in the UK usually have one or two scheduled lectures/seminars a week, and then the rest of the time tends to take a more self-guided, independent approach; for some unis, that involves working in a shared studio space, for others, it can focus more on utlilising workshops or other facilities.

I know lots of students who commute on my course: they tend to prefer to make work at home, and then bring it into the studio twice a week or so. I also, however, know a good percentage of students who work best in the studio, and are on-campus five days a week. It really depends on how you work best and your creative headspace. If you already know you're someone who struggles to make art at home or focus with other people around, consider moving closer - but if not, double check the timetable and course structure with the course leader/course admin and base your options on that.

It will be one of those where you'll get your timetable closer to your start date and as the reps have said above it will vary from uni to uni, if you're within a commutable distance without it putting too much strain on your studies then you'd likely be okay but worth considering that if you've opted to study full time you would potentially be in for a good few hours (or even full days) a week  What uni are you going to if you don't mind saying?
