My daughter is on the reserve list too! Fingers crossed for your son. I understand there is a lot of movement shortly so hoping they both make the cut! Best of luck to your son x

When did your daughter find out she was on the reserve list?

When did your daughter find out she was on the reserve list?

A few weeks ago …the wait goes on. We’re not sure whether this means that she is outside of their top 20 choices or whether she will be considered for a place when all the rounds are done. They’ve said they will let her know when a space becomes available.
From their email it appears that they are only taking 20 for Sept rather than the 35 stated on their website.
There are several different threads on here re LIPA - on another one a student at LIPA sixth form (also applying) said that they only give a few offers out and hold the majority back until they had finished all of their auditions

How come they're limiting the places available this year? Has anyone even received rejections yet?

Why is this thread in the medical schools forum???

@KA_P this may need moving to somewhere else for better answers

I have no idea on either question. I was just going by the wording in her email re the 20 places. The only posts I’ve seen are from those still waiting, those with offers (I think I’ve seen two) and those on reserve list (just my daughter and another)

About the number of students. When we went to their open day, they said 35 places. 15 for international and 20 for UK students. I remember that so detailed as I couldn’t believe that they’re literally just accepting a handful of students out of how ever many thousands. I hope you all have a clear answer soon. The waiting must be awful.

Does anyone know how long it takes for lipa to get back to you I sent in application via ucas on 24th jan not heard anything yet re either audition or not accepted
Have emailed them last week they said not yet processed just seems a long time as already auditioned and been given 2 offers for 2 other universities and got 2 more auditions in next 2 weeks
Lipa seem to be taking a long time

Hi there,
I wanted to let you know this discussion has been moved to a more relevant forum, under Performing Arts and Music.
Best of luck! :hugs:

Thank you for the clarification on the number of places - that’s really helpful and the email now makes complete sense.
And yes, very much hoping there are decisions soon for everyone waiting. It’s the being in limbo that I think is getting to my daughter now but hopefully not for too much longer 😊

I believe LIPA first round offers went out 3-4 weeks ago, including notification of being on the reserve list. This is when my daughter received hers for Acting and so did 2 others she met at the audition and recall in January (give or take a couple of weeks), 1 offer and 1 on reserve list.

Those on reserve will move to an offer as students decline offers, obviously but it is worth knowing that if they receive their last decision on or before 16 May 2024, their reply date is 6 June 2024 but if they receive their last decision on or before 17 July 2024, their reply date is 24 July 2024. Those offers remain open for those students the whole time as they cannot accept an offer until all decisions are in.

It is frustrating all round as some places make very slow decisions and it has a knock on effect on that student and others. My daughter was being held up making a decision on her offers by one place that was even slower than LIPA. In the end, she withdrew her application for that place so that she could accept one of her offers.

I know some students have also received rejections, so I think if you do not have a decision, that is potentially good news as it means you are still in the game!

Note:
If you are seriously considering LIPA, check out the student accommodation and be ready to make a decision quickly. Like most drama schools, LIPA does not have its own accommodation and some of them are sold out with waiting lists (e.g. Grenville, Cathedral ensuite), which is all crazy and very stressful!

Thank you- that is so helpful and really kind of you to update us.
Congratulations to your daughter- fantastic news 🎉
I think I’ve now counted 3 offers and 2 reserves (including my daughter) from the Jan BA Acting audition, so guessing it will be waiting it out for us to see if there is any movement over the coming weeks/months.
RT-d - I think the fact that you haven’t heard is probably positive, so still keeping my fingers crossed for you!
We’ve looked at accommodation options but obviously stuck and cannot book until we hear any further news - limbo land is getting quite exhausting 😂

Hi all, just to add, my daughter auditioned (both rounds) Acting(MT) Jan 10th and she still hasnt heard a thing. Emailed twice in this time and pretty much same answer - no decisions made yet and to keep checking UCAS. I believe they should hear by 16 May for offer or rejection and if they dont hear, we presume its a rejection?

It is so very frustrating not knowing and the long wait but it seems that all the drama schhols do it

Not necessarily.

Students who have received all their offers by 16 May have until 6 June to respond, so I suspect the first big wave of new offers will go out around this time. Perhaps reserve list students.

However, if they have not had all their offers by 16 May If you receive your last decision on or before 17 May then they have until 24 July to make their decisions, which is when they will send out the next wave of offers. Perhaps those that have moved into the reserve list.

If there are any academic conditions linked to the offer (e.g. 64 UCAS points, CC grades at A level, which is UCAS stipulated minimum grading), there may be a few more places on results day. I don't know how strict they are with this given that drama school prioritise audition over grades.

In short, it's not over until they tell you you've not got through. It's agonising and stressful but a small consolation that you're worth holding on to and not declined an offer.

I understand it is difficult, my daughter did not want to wait anymore and withdrew her application, so that she could go ahead and book.

Accommodation wise, advantage of very late offer is that there will be a flurry of good rooms available as students terminate contracts due to results (both higher and lower than predicted).

It's a horrible waiting game but I suspect our children will do a lot more of it in this career that they have chosen. 😬

Best wishes.

Thank you. Good luck to your daughter, they are all so resilient and talented to have got this far!

I have learnt so much in this process that I feel the least I can do is share it. I was a complete newbie only a few months ago, although I feel as though I have aged a decade!

Bless her- it’s a horribly long time to wait. I know a couple still waiting and I’m guessing that means they are still in the mix, so would definitely see as a positive.
LIPA are one of the schools that do email rather than just update on UCAS. I’ve heard previously with drama schools that UCAS can sometimes automatically update to rejected if they haven’t got a place by deadline so do hold out for an email from LIPA directly rather than assuming the UCAS update on 16 May is correct. They have sent out several rejections (including for the Jan audition) so unlikely she is in that bucket.
I have my fingers crossed for your daughter and hoping it’s good news soon! X

Thank you and yes it has been a real eye opener as to what actors etc go through just to get training. I feel for everyone going through the process whatever the outcome.
Your daughter has done incredibly to get in first year and lovely that she can now focus on A levels and her intermediate time.
I’ve been going with this a couple of years now so feeling positively ancient 😂

Thank you! All good info - first year into doing this so its a bit of a mine field. I do think they should amend their website info though as it mentions 3 weeks or so to hear... and here we are nearly 17 weeks later! But no news is not a rejection so far! only another 10 days to wait I guess!

Do you know if there are many LIPA students at Grenville? My daughter just got her place (Acting MT) and deliberating between Cathedral (not en-suite) where she’s more likely to be with people on her course and Grenville (en-suite) Any advice would be appreciated!

I think it’s hard to tell where LIPA students are usually staying as other universities around offer the same places but I’m sure you’ll find some in each accommodation that LIPA has on their website. My daughter will start at LIPA too (BA Acting). I tried to message you private but for some reason it wouldn’t accept your member name.

Good luck for your daughter and all the best! 😀

That’s amazing - well done to her! I’ll see if I can retrieve the message. It might be good to put them in contact with each other ahead of September?
