Doctor Degree apprenticeship thoughts

As this MDDA has just come out, ESNEFT and ARU will be working together for this apprenticeship. Just wanting to know, has anyone applied for this yet

What are you opinions on this apprenticeship (could I use it as a plan A and apply to med schools as a plan B)

Also, I thought of this apprenticeship as a good thing/opportunity, but why is it disagreed upon, even if the apprenticeship offers the same degree as a med school

People have always been sceptical of apprenticeships as opposed to the standard HE route, its just peoples views on apprenticeships in general, I think its a really positive step in the right direction and as it builds up momentum over the coming years people will start to see a positive impact on NHS staffing levels.

Thanks for the response, really helped, and you're right, it does seem as a positive impact, just waiting on which universities will begin to offer it

Would you know any ways to keep updated, in terms of which university will begin to offer it

Yeah DFE have a website that we use at work to check what organisations deliver apprenticeship standards. But as its an apprenticeship you won't get any say on who you train with, it will be down to the employer, but my guess is it will tap into the existing list of providers who do the typical med degrees.

I don't think its a good idea to have it as plan A currently as it is extremely competitive (more than the normal route of entry via UCAS). Right now it only has 20 spaces for 1000+ ppl who have applied and meet the criteria. In the future however I believe there would be more spaces (but keep in mind degree apprenticeships in general are way more competitive than UCAS applications).

I think people doubt this route because they forget that the apprentices will have to take the exact same classes and exams as the ARU med students
