vienna, thats because there is such bad feeling toward the tories after the shambles they left the country in 6 years ago. A massive majority for labour in 1997 wasnt for nothing you know. The tories were a misery.

Oh come on Vienna!!!

I could attack Tory policies and ideals till the cows come home. I would also say the same to a person convicting themselves to ANY political party.
so why dont you.

The brutal, honest, working class majority view of the Tory party is that they are stuck up, posh, money grabbing right wingers who shouldn't preach about working class conditions as they have never experienced them.

This image WILL BE IMPOSSIBLE to shake off. This is mainly due to the fact that all the members of the party are white, old and talk with a posh accent. Its not fair, its not right, but its the way it goes and theres nothing anyone can do about it.

Image is everything.
Since when have the working class been the majority?

Bulls***.
have you not been reading the mountains of posts that basically come back to the same point of 'i dont like the tories because they are rich, posh, white middle class and hate people who talk different. they dont have a clue about the normal guy'.

look at the title of this thread for crying out loud.

A well-respected conservative politician!?!? lol!!
It is stupid to suggest that it is true to say there are few respected Tory politicians, I could post a very long list of Tories, present and past who are very well respected.

The middle classes are the majority in this country. It is that class that parties always aim to win votes from.

By a lot of people, most notably rival politicians. It cannot be said that Labour MPs do not respect the likes of Matthew Parris, Kenneth Clarke, Sir Michael Spicer and many more.

do you not agree that the majority of talk against the conservatives here is predominantly against a stereotyped tory boy character?
i cant ever remember any tory supporters here taking the piss out of a supposed typical labour supporter.

It is not as easy to stereotype a Labour supporter!
You have made little jibes at socialism many times in the past.
It doesn't annoy me, but now that you're whining about others doing it - it is relevant.

ive jibed at socialism. how, as an ideology, i dont agree with it and thus joke about it. thats not directly attacking a stereotype of someone is a socialist.

I can stereotype a Labour voter:

Lives in Liverpool
Is a dock-worker
Eats coal for tea
Main social gathering point is a pub
Reads the Socialist worker
Has no real education
Has an impossible to understand accent
Has an incredibly large family
Refers to family members of 'Our kid'
Blames other people for his lack of money
Has a very narrow view of politics; does not understand all the concepts fully.

No, I think that one has stuck very well. I think sensible people know days believe neither. The typical Tory voter is middle class, I live in a conservative constituency, and though there are many well off people here, none are public school or old money, they are just successful.
