Welcome to the waiting party! It is going to be amazing when all of us have our own little (not) gothic mansions. With every passing day I wait, I will be expecting another piece of furniture to be put in said mansion.

If we don't get replies until the 30th, there better be marble statues made in our likeness! Or I mean, a little bust would work too hahahaha. Just read someone say some incredible things about the French and Chinese course which has only made me more nervous. I'm just hoping that after all this I don't get blooming rejected hahahaha, Edinburgh is by far my #1

I think it is entirely reasonable to ask for a bust or at least a Renaissance portrait. But you know guys, it's all in the mindset! We WILL get an offer!!!! Same tho, Edinburgh is my no.1 SOOOOOOO if Edinburgh happens to be listening, I would greatly appreciate if you gave me an offer.....preferably soon.

I am mildly concerned that Edinburgh will see this and only see our very sarcastic comments about thinking we deserve furnished mansions whereas in reality we're just distracting ourselves from the crushing wait. I promise Edinburgh, I am A) normal, and B) a very very big fan of your uni (please take me). The fact all my friends are applying for accommodation makes the wait so much worseee

To be fair I think it is pretty clear we are being sarcastic and I don't think seeing this post would change their entire decision on giving out offers. Just in case I do need to clarify though, Edinburgh, I would really love if you gave me an offer. I was just thinking about the accommodation as well!!! Ah I really hope it doesn't get too expensive ....

I will be working a lot this summer to try and pay for stuff if I go to Edinburgh ahahahahaa. It's one of the most expensive uni cities to live in which is really unfortunate because it has by far my favourite course. But we'll make do! Hoping I can nab a job at a student café to put my three years of being a barista to use ahahahaha

I don't know much about higher education french, I mean I stopped doing it in year 9 and absolutely hated studying the language (just my opinion). Personally, as someone who is biased to studying mandarin, I think there is a deeper cultural element you learn through the characters than in other romantic languages. Whilst writing the characters take some time to adjust, you begin to understand them over time and they are actually very logical. Even though the writing and speaking can be harder, the grammar is actually quite simple compared to other european languages (eg. no conjunction, no feminine or masculine, past and future time frame is really easy to use etc.). I would recommend potentially looking up some youtube videos on the history/ culture behind it and see if it would be something that would interest you. I have some series recommendations if you want to try some chinese shows out!

No way! I thought I’d never find anyone else doing the same course before I arrived. What level do you think you’ll start studying Chinese at?

Oooooo I'd probably do the exam during freshers week to see what placement I'd get but id probably go into the 2nd/3rd class (I know this year they have introduced a 3rd level depending on fluency). What about you?

Beginner probably. I did it for GCSE but haven’t kept it up since so I suspect that I won’t do well enough to skip a level. Have you applied for accommodation yet?
