What are you able to say regarding police forces and demand for trainee detective constables? It is unclear whether police forces (I have in mind MET) are truly after trainees or if they are likely receiving more interest than vacancies

Regardless of what anyone says or what you might have heard; it is an absolute and undeniable truth that the Met needs trainee DCs. The only thing that might change is how long the process is.

The Met is a very large organisation- by far the largest police force in country. Turnover of staff means that a large number of DCs will always be needed to replace those retiring - and a feature of the DEDC programme is that the kind of people who have been recruited are often looking for a relatively short career - less than 6 years.

Additionally, the vast majority of new detectives nowadays are from the DE scheme and not lateral transfers from uniform.
