Henrietta Barnett School Sixth Form

Hi! Does anyone here go to hbs/ plan to for sixth form? I’m thinking of moving there, but I’ve heard that the environment can be toxic and was wondering if anyone could shine a light on that. Also, how is the music and latin department?

Hello, I am currently a student at hbs, not yet 6th form though. I've been here since y7 and its a really good school. The toxicity part is a lie - we are quite competitive but everyone is really nice and friendly, as are the teachers. I have never seen any instances of bullying in all my time at the school. The music department is amazing - I am a music student and very much involved in hbs music. The head of department runs an excellent orchestra outside hbs, and is very professional. There is a lot of music happening at the school, for example we even have our own music festival. Music spaces are also decent.
Latin is also strong at hbs. I did Latin im ks3, and the teaching is very good.
Its a really nice school and I really suggest you come!

hey! i've finished hbs but i moved there for sixth form. i really enjoyed it and am glad i moved. some people find it very pressurising because you're amongst the top in the country, and i gather that in the lower school it is very competitive so some girls carry this into sixth form. i didn't notice this at all, really thrived and enjoyed the academic challenge and pace of work. the teaching is better on average than other state schools and it's nice to be in an environment where everyone wants to work hard and aim high (unlike my previous comprehensive school)

Hi, I am an international student and my school does not offer the (I)GCSEs. Is there anyway that I could apply to schools like Hentrietta Barnett or Olaves's grammer school without doing the IGCSEs?

I’d suggest you email the Henrietta Barnett school office and enquire to them about what qualifications you’re currently taking (they’ll probably have equivalent expected marks for you). as for olaves, well, that’s a boys school so haha 😀

hi! Sorry for this late post but I just had a few questions since I’m currently choosing between going to a maths school or hbs. how is hbs for science and maths, specifically maths and physics? (I understand if you didn’t take these lmao). do they offer good extracurricular opportunities or help for Oxbridge examinations? also, do you think the sixth form is cliquey? (my last girls school was really cliquey and the girls were pretty mean so I don’t rlly want to go through that again), tysm <3

Hi, so I'd say HBS is quite STEM based and about a good 80% of us end up doing BCM or Maths and physics etc - chemistry and biology is quite good, and so is physics in general (though I'd say it depends on what teacher you get). HBS has a high number of sixth formers going to Oxbridge every year, so I guess it's a good school to go if you're aiming for Oxbridge, not sure about how much help you get though - I can ask older year students if you'd like. There's a range of ex. curriculars, most of which are student run, so if you want to run a club you can, plus the existing ones are pretty great. In my honest opinion, HBS is like the least cliquey sixth form from what I've heard about other 6th forms, and the externals integrate pretty well, so I really recommend coming here.
Hope this helps!

HBS is a 100% selective grammar school.
