How difficult is it to get into southampton?

I like the look of southampton to study civil engineering, although it seems to have a very high entry requirements - AAB for Beng  where as most unis have BBB only for a similar degree (and more like AAB for Meng). Can anyone explain this?

Oh, great, I really liked the looks of it. :frown:
Do you speak from experience?

Not hard.

You will want to get onto the M4, then get onto the M25, then the A33 towards southampton....

:P
I got my Southhampton offer today! woooop! (aab for geog). Surely the high grades denote a top quality institution.

Hmm, this page still says Southampton are offering ABBb for their MEng:

And UCAS says it should be AAB for the MEng. A lot of universities raised their grades this year - Imperial officially raised their offers to AAA this year (although AAA was the typical, but not the advertised, offer for the 2008 cycle), as did Bristol. Southampton's offer last year was ABBb for the MEng, and I imagine this led to them loosing out on a lot of potential candidates to Bristol and Imperial, which they are just as good as. It's only natural that they would want to raise their grades to attract more candidates to select them as their firm.

As long as you have the required grades and a good personal statement you should be fine. The interview amounted to 15 minutes of chatting, no maths or science questions whatsoever.

This is speaking from experience of applying for an electronic engineering degree which is AAA for Meng.
I got an invite for an interview there in January, for BSc Geology. I'll see how that goes.
