Vaping ‘linked to cancer and damages body like smoking’

People who vape suffer similar changes to their DNA as smokers who develop cancer, researchers have revealed.

Scientists at University College London analysed samples of cheek cells from vape users and compared these with those from cigarette smokers. Both groups had similar changes to the DNA of cells in their mouth.

These changes were, in turn, linked to the future development of lung cancer in smokers.

The authors of the study, published in the journal Cancer Research, said the findings did not prove e-cigarettes cause cancer but show that “the devices might not be as harmless as originally thought”.
It is the first major study to draw a link between e-cigarettes and an increased risk of cancer.

Somewhat more reserved take by CRUK, pointing out it doesn't explicitly prove it can cause cancer and pointing out that based on current research if vaping to stop from smoking, it's better to continue vaping and not go back to smoking.

Not so much a problem when its smokers turning to vapes, but theres a huge use of vapes by children and adults who have never smoked. Plus if plans continue smoking is going to be *legally* phased out, whereas vaping will be a legal alternative.

Whoever would have thought it. Well I never. What a surprise. Never saw that coming.

I refuse to believe that vaping leads to the same or similar damage to the body as traditional smoking does.

Whether it causes or can cause cancers, is yet to be seen.
I don't think anyone is really claiming vaping is as bad as smoking tobacco, it's just that they're both harmful, rather than one good and one bad.
Ban both, simples.
I understand the worry. After facing some health issues, I recently quit smoking. Transitioning to vaping with low nicotine options has made a significant difference for me. It's important to prioritize health and explore alternatives like vaping responsibly.

I’d support this but easier said than done.
Is it the nicotine that's doing the damage or the way it makes the vapour?

Well, as a vaper I don't believe it. Smoking is 10 times more harmful than vaping.

Theres a difference between it not being true and you not wanting to hear it. Regardless of what you believe vaping is not good for you, never has been never will be. Just because smoking is more harmful doesn’t make it any better. The fact vaping is being linked to cancer should not be a shock to anyone, and by participating in the behaviour you are damaging your own current and future health, the only difference is you are in denial about it.

the brother had the audacity to say, and I quote, "0 risks of cancer" .
likeee, not even, one .? like just one ..? I mean, the inhalation of these fumes and just everything to do with the whole combustion mechanism; at least one carcinogen is prominent in the fumes which therefore poses a risk, to forming cancer. you are right lol, because it therefore then follows that that they just don't want it to be true/to hear it.
