Bro im stressing - ive had 3 tests this week , no rev for english and too tired to do it now? - I will wake up early to revise - but what should i do to use my time wisely?

I've been trying to memorise page numbers instead of quotes- saves a lot of time and I still know what to use for potential essays. I'd say to note down some key themes for essays, and perhaps two or three page numbers with quotes on those themes for each.

Other than that, I'd say to make sure you know some context for each text, and the context of whatever genre you're studying, along with some basic critical observations. To save some time, pick one of your best practice essays and try to memorise the introduction structure so you can replicate it in the exam.

2023
Selected Poems George Crabbe, Robert Browning and Oscar Wilde ‘the criminals in these poems fail to show any feelings of guilt
The Rime of the Ancient Mariner Samuel Taylor Coleridge ‘The mariner continually searches for forgiveness which he never receives’
Atonement-Ian McEwan ‘Cecilia is simply an innocent victim’
cruelty, either physical or mental, is an essential element in crime writing’
‘explore the significance of death
where did you find these? i'm trying to find the 2023 question for when will there be good news but can't find it anywhere :frown:

if we get a setting question with atonement, to link it to context u could write about it being a postmodernist text, the fragmentation of the differing settings and its disruption of the linear progression of time and undermining of the idea of a cohesive, objective reality

I'm doing Atonement, Brighton Rock and The Rime of The Ancient Mariner if anyone has any predictions? I am desperately praying for Section B to be on either Briony or criminal motive for Atonement as I actively refuse to write about either Brighton Rock or The Rime of the Ancient Mariner for that question.

you got lucky asking for briony!! I loved the briony question too

I thought it was so good. how did people find the crime unseen??

I thought it was quite nice compared to other years, although im not sure if thats because I was better prepared than I have been before

I hated the unseen extract question for english lit B paper 2B, I sat there staring at the paper for like 20 mins straight. Completely waffled that paper icl. I do William Blake, THT and TKR - william blake question on Section B would have been okay but I decided not to revise William Blake and winged that question lmao. Punishment was alr? sort of - I feel like there as sm to write abt and didn't get enough down. All in all - found it hard personally and waffled the hell out of it. Glad its over 😀 will be miserable on results day tho

Thought it was so good!! Like the extract, chose the handmiads question for section B then I did TKR and Blake for the ‘manipulation’ question.

Reply 69

anyone do the mariner for section b?

Reply 70

Anyone else mention Boris Johnson for the social and political Section A?

Reply 71

guys isolation is mental suffering right? and for the mariner, his eternal penance is also mental suffering?

That's good to hear! What were your points for manipulation? I thought it was such a good question and planned it out too but i didnt know if my points linked well with the question so then moved onto the punishment question 😭 idek what I was writing, I gave up later tbf my hand was hurting bit too much ☹️

Wow, I found that exam to be really quite peaceful. The Briony question felt like something I'd done a million times as a homework essay, and the C question on criminals as victims was also straightforward. I also really enjoyed the extract, so much to say on feminism/unconventional tropes. Not what I was hoping for, but definitely not unwelcome

I hope that my essays are distinct enough though, I fear that my responses might be as simple as the questions lmfao

hardly wrote anything for the extract, i basically just rewrote the extract ffs i guess the one thing i wrote about was how unconventional of a criminal she was. section b mariner, spoke about his isolation from nature, from god, from the world around him, the realization of god's unforgiving nature and how that's the worst mental agony one could experience, section c hamlet and atonement.. waffle, awful quotes selected, barely wrote ewt but i included a lot of context i guess and counter arguments. i think i flopped and i feel awful

don't worry, remember english is all about differing views, it won't be in the mark scheme that you have to write about this to get in marks, as long as u wrote about other stuff finished the question made justifications you're okay!
