student accommodation: can I still reject it after I've been accepted?

I currently have both university and apprenticeship offers, both of which are conditional based on the grades I achieve in my a-levels. I'm going to apply for student accommodation just incase I don't get the grades for my apprenticeship, however, am I still able to cancel my accommodation if I am able to get my grades and decide to do the apprenticeship instead of university?

Hi @breaklog

Yes, of course! Many people will be in a similar position as you. It is very common for people to end up going to a different university than planned after the results day. As long as you haven't signed any tenancy contracts yet, which I doubt you will have had to do at this point, you will be fine to withdraw your space at the accommodation.

You can also check this with the accommodation; they will know exactly how it all works.

Good luck!

Hi there, I signed my licence agreement for my student accommodation on the 26th of June and paid of the deposit 2 days ago from today, I still haven’t been accepted into the university as I am still waiting for results day, I would like to cancel my accommodation now that I have given it some thought I emailed the uni, do you think they will cancel it

Hi @Sully3110

You've done the right thing by contacting your university. The next steps I would advise is to get in touch with the accommodation provider directly to see what you can do now about your accommodation and deposit.

I backed out of my accommodation last year and was able to get my deposit back and cancel the booking quite easily, but I would definitely recommend checking the rules for your specific accommodation to find out. They are probably reachable via email, or you could try calling them too.

Hope this gets sorted for you. 🙂

It did they cancelled it but I didn’t email them about the deposit, as on a previous email they said the deposit is non refundable

Hi @Sully3110

I see. It might be worth reaching out to them again about the deposit? It may be that it is non-refundable, but it wouldn't hurt to try. The worst case response would be what you already know, but it could be worth checking in.
