my gsce life

i've seen a few people do this and i liked the idea of tracking my progress through year 9 up until my gsces. for reference, i am in year 10 right now.
subjects i'm taking
maths - my best and favourite subject and i want to take it at uni (my dream is maths at cambridge but we're still a while from there)
english - my worst subject (both lit and lang)
physics
chemistry
biology
history
latin
spanish
computing
additional maths
extracurriculars:
i am going to do my grade 7 piano exam this term and i have a green belt in kickboxing. i also ran a chess club last year so i want to do that again this year.
my goals:
i want to get all 9s, and then go on to study maths at cambridge. i also want to improve my fitness (not directly gsce related) so i'm trying to run
just to let you know:
i am a bit rambly so sometimes you might get my most useful revison technique ever and sometimes you might get my favourite food or how im coping with revision and socialising and extra curriculars - this is going to be about my life while doing me gsces not just how im revising. it's a way for me to hold myself accountable and also document my gsce journey

hi, fellow year 10 here, but i'm homeschooled and in the usa! i can't wait to follow your journey!

today was my first day of school and it went well i think. it's always nice to see your friends after 6 weeks not seeing each other. the early wake up is HARD though. i honestly don't know how i'm going to get used to getting up at 6:20 every single day after getting up at 12pm everyday in summer 😭. my first two periods were just admin and timetables and stuff - but we also got our photos taken which was HUMBLING. i just know mine's going to be awful, but realistically only my teachers see it. then we started lessons. i had maths, computing and spanish. they were pretty much all just introducing us to the course so all fairly chill. my computing teacher's voice is SO soporific. i wanted to go to sleep right there and then. it's so odd being on a completely different timetable to all your friends. i dont know if you guys already had split schedules, but in my school my form all did the same subject at the same time, even if we were in different classes, so all of us doing different things is so odd. how was everyone else's first day of school (or first few days)?

I feel the exact same😭. I have to wake up at 6 am everyday when I fall asleep at like midnight. I had school photos yesterday but it was with my form so it wasn't too bad.😅 I don't take computing (thank God) but my science teacher is a bit old so I have to literally shout for him to hear me ask a question, he is starting to forget things which means I might be screwed. Please tell how I lost my timetable on the third day of school🙄. My friends are only in a few of my classes, but even then my teacher's put a seating plan where I can't sit next to them. I'm in Year 10 so I still have to wait in those LONG lines for lunch(unless I sneak which i have been doing) These year 7's multiply in number every year so I have to run to class. But life goes on🙃

hey y'all! thank goodness it's the weekend i was SO ready for it. And that was with a two day week - how will i deal with a 5 day week 😣. after i logged off tsr on thursday i did 200 spanish flashcards so feeling pretty good about that. then on friday i got homework in EVERY lesson bar one which i think really tells me how different the year 10 pace is going to be to year 9. they were all pretty long homeworks too. i've done all of them except the chapter one pre reading questions of lord of the flies. i am not looking forward to that one. but except that i have a pretty chill weekend. watching lots of modern family and drinking lots of tea basically. how do you guys like to spend your weekends?

hi everyone! omg first full week back at school. it went SO slow - lowkey feel like i've been back for weeks - is that just me? like honest to god i thought october half term was in like 2 weeks. so far so good - managed to keep on top of homework, understand everything, take good notes but english is actually killing me. i'm doing lord of the flies - if anyone has any tips please let me know! i have a physics test as well in a couple of weeks testing year 9 stuff which has LEFT my brain so i need to start revising for that. extra-curricular-wise, i start piano lessons again next week but i've been practising a lot. i also went for a run today so im slowly getting closer to that goal of 5k - but balancing extra-curriculars and school can be hard. i'm also applying for a few roles of responsibility in school so we'll see how those go!

what i'm doing this weekend:

making flashcards for physics (do you think i should make some or just use pre made ones online?)

writing out my application for the roles of responsibility

going out for dim sum!

finishing my english homework

i always made my own flashcards since i was worried the ones online wouldn't be fully correct and i also think making them can be part of the revision process as you kind of have to read and understand the info when making the flashcards!

Good luck with your revision! And yeah last week felt more like a year, it's probably because we actually have to pay attention in every one of our lessons now since we're taking them for GCSE

Make sure to have brakes in between. Our brain is actually only meant to be loaded for information for 25 minutes. After that it kind of switches of. If you have tiktok that time kinda shortens because tiktok reduces your attention span.Try the pomodoro method (i think i butchered the spelling) but it helps with long term memory instead of short term.
it's amazing that u got into the cayley olympiad in year 9, i just BARELY got to do it in year 10 - always fun to do the ukmts anyway
