yeah i find it's best for the time cuz 3 is the hardest one in my opinion so if i don't finish it then at least it's on the hardest one and usually on q3 whatever u can say is usually right but seems kinda limited and vague sometimes, so less is more but that means that i'd be able to do the best i can on the rest of them so yeah i've always done it that way and it makes total sense in my head lol
lots of ppl in my year only wrote a page and three quarters for the description but ppl who did stories wrote more because they left more lines in dialogue and also in more, shorter paragraphs to add impact so i wouldn't worry about how much you write, the examiner is more likely to lose interest if u just keep going on and on and on with little change in what ur writing so don't keep writing for the sake of it i just make sure i've included all the literary devices i want to (i have it set out so in paragraph 1 i want to include metaphor//semicolon//pathetic fallacy//alliteration etc.)

i got a grade 8 and wrote just over a page. exciting language and techniques are key, i always do desc

MY Q5 TIPS (IM NOT A professional BUT i think they’re worth something)
Start with an extended metaphor with a semi colon to get more in… make the first paragraph one very long sentence and a shorter one for effect that leads into the description
Zoom into an object and describe it, try and use personification, oxymoron, alliteration, simile (not all)
DO NOT PACK LONG PARAGRAPHS… it might seem impressive but it bores the one reading (my teacher once said she will not mark any work you give her if the paragraph is longer than a half of a page, preferably not more than a third)
Follow it up with a single line sentence that is short but hits, incorporating some nuance (foreshadowing, an oxymoron, a potential shift in tone, introducing a change etc)
Other fillers
End with a cyclycal structure back to the first image, either shifting or maintaining the same tone. Make it a captivating ending that, despite being the end, seems like the beginning of something new (to end on a ‘cliffhanger’)
Generally, the picture is easier to do for me as it takes less thinking time and is less versatile (it will most likely have something weather related - think of an extended mataphor that fits three weather events (ie storm, sunset, greenery and one on the sound of a storm) in advance to start that will give you a starting point and something impressive straight away in the exam… even if it is a picture of a room, you could start of by talking about the sound of the weather pelting the roof, then shift into the room creating a sinister tone, and end with the weather again)
Good luck everyone! Remember, the whole country will be sitting at the same time as us

Thank youu

Like i mentioned, if you prepare something on sound you will be able to fit it in to ANY picture… one on a peaceful, stormy and busy location..
Prepare something on light aswell, it will fit into anything just tweak it a bit! (light seeping through window, through trees, lights strung up in a town)
Prepare a thing about feelings
Prepare small phrases that can fit anywhere (like an unfinished simile that is vague enough to fit into any description , maybe an oxymoron (melodic silence, peaceful smashing etc) and you get the jist

Thinking about it this way (i didnt think abt this before just thinking as i write) im not that scared anymore !!

For all different sections use a different language device and you have those ticked already! Make each a semi long sentence or extended so u have the long ones out of the way and you can do the shorter and mid length sentences on the spot in the exam)

i think they'd allow you to use vocab, but refrain from using whole sentences or very similar structures to the text as it will be obvious that you've copied and might make the examiner think less of you, try to be as original as possible

so what i've heard is that if it's something really concerning they might report you, but like, for your own safety, to make sure that you're alright, but i doubt they'd take points away.
if you write something undeniably good, despite the mature themes, they'd still give you the marks, but to be on the same side maybe refrain from anything too graphic or too mature that might make the examiner feel concerned, because it might take away from the experience of reading it.
that's just my opinion though 🤷
