There were 4 stationary points. After finding dy/dx in terms of theta, and setting dy/dx to 0, you end up with four values of theta (because range of graph was 0<theta<2pi), each of which gives a value for x/y when subbing back into the original parametric equations.

damn i only got 2 values of theta, where were the 2 others?
Does any1 know exactly what equation they got for the integration by substitution part with the x+1 = u one
the integral was ln u - 1/u i think

It was certainly harder than usual, too few marks for the time some of them took, especially as it wasn’t clear how far you have to go with proving stuff

I'm pretty sure this is the curve, the stationary points are indicated. x=sin(2t)+2, y=2cos(t)+cos(2t)

I reckon 12 - I had 50 minutes left though to do it and didn't get anything up until 30 minutes left. Kept getting mixed up with the normal maths and the new maths I had got given so I spent ages on it, but it was Ok once I picked out the bits necessary

last yrs pure and comp was way easier than this yr
and Pure and mech last yr was a bit easier than this yr

Use f(x) = 1/x - cos(x) and starting value of 5, because that's where the gradient function of the original graph looked close to 1 for the first time (positively).

did it want the smallest positive or the smallest in general
