well i know the basis, but i acc don't know what happened if they weren't condemned to death (i know that's concerning to ask i should have done it earlier), bc i know manech got amnesia but what acc happened, how did he get there?

the gist of the story:

the whole film is based on Mathilde's investigation to find manech when he disappears.
manech and Mathilde are childhood sweethearts. he gets drafted into WW1, him and 4 other soldiers self harm in order to try and escape the war. Manech self harms by waving his hand above the trenches while holding a lit cig and gets shot in the hand. all 5 soldiers are courtmartialed for self harm and sentenced to death - that's why they all get sent to the front line, as they're meant to get thrown over the top into no mans land. Manech gets injured and rescued by one of the other 4 and ends up as an amnesiac living with some lady whose actual son died in the war. eventually Mathilde tracks him down and they're reunited !

this is a really crap summary of the film sorry but there's so much to it ! I recommend going on YouTube or amazon prime to watch the film properly or even little snippets of scenes that you can find, also quizlet is good for key points about themes and characters and the plot too

present?? like an English essay, eg "this shows that" but when describing the plot i'd use the past, for example, in the film La Haine, "the three boys lived in the suburbs" sorta thing

Ohh ok so I can switch between the two i guess

you also want to use le passé simple
for example: (this is the beginning of my introduction for l’étranger)

so “fut” is être in le passé simple. Basically Passé Simple is used in writing solely, and it’s really good to use it to show your “level”… essentially just a great way to impress the examiners - like genuinely even if you use it once

you can look up bescherelle.com and just see all the conjugations for like important verbs!

Obviously this is just advice my teachers have given us which seriously do help you get full marks

okay so i think it’s super important to add context to the beginning of any essay… my introduction is like so extra but this is what i normally write:

one my teachers is a major perfectionist - to the point the way she’s taught us to write essays is like university level, i really wouldn’t stress

i was stressing out about it so another teacher literally told me that you could get away without even writing a conclusion - i really wouldn’t worry too much, by far this is my hardest exam out of all of them

last time i will ask cos i think more ppl r coming in the thread but is ANYONE doing un long dimanche de fiancailles??! any predictions for that? or even un secret?
my school picked the worst options like no one else does it and there's literally no resources
I am as well ): I have no idea for predictions cos I’ve looked at the past questions and they’re super random. I’m just going over vocab specific to the film and cinematographic techniques cos that’s the bit I know the least about

Reply 199

Any last predictions on what the question could be on for No et Moi et La Haine??
