guys how do you actually answer an 8 mark analyse question - we've been taught so badly.
my advice for the eight marker would be to follow the TE A LA ST
T: trends any patterns?
E: examples i.e., quote figure
A: AO 1 link it back to geographical knowledge if you can (the WHY is this happening)
L: limitations can you criticise the data?
A: anomalies point out anything that goes against the grain

1.

if you want to manipulate the data, figure out the medium or something if it benefits you

2.

highlight any themes work in synoptics

honestly, this question might be the hardest to get full marks on, but if you need to see examples examiner reports are really

How many paragraphs

Can someone tell me a clear structure for 18 & 24? Like the 1 above with the 8 mark in this thread. Literally don't know anything about paper 3 til now :frown:

It’s basically just like two 20 markers, use the same structure you used for paper 1 and 2. I use Point, Explain/Evidence/Analyse, Evaluate/Link. With an intro, 4 body paragraph and a conclusion. This is just what i find best for me though.

Does anyone have the 2023 paper? Or where I can find it?

is it best to read the whole resource booklet first or to just read it in the sections as you go along and answer the questions?

I was advised to look at the questions first to get a jist of what the booklet will be on and then remember those questions while flipping through the booklet for a good 15 mins

They’re basically just 20 markers but with an extra paragraph or two (~4 for 18 and ~5-6 for 24). I would spend 30 mins and 40-45 mins on them respectively which means you have around 6-7 mins per paragraph + intro and conclusion

So just follow normal 20 mark structure:
Intro: Define key terms (and contest them if they’re something vague like ‘development’ or ‘sustainable’) and outline your argument
Then just for/against/for/against (etc) the view while following a
P - point for/against the view
E - evidence from the resource booklet to illustrate point (OR/AND a case study you know)
E - explain what this shows and how this illustrates the point (using your own AO1 knowledge)
L - link back to the view and evaluate it (is the argument relevant on all scales/time periods/for all players/is the data fully representative etc)

Then just repeat and do a conclusion where you recognise that the argument will be more nuanced in reality but ultimately the view is mostly correct/incorrect

This is what I’ve learnt but tbf my school spent like 3 lessons on this paper 😭😭 so could be completely lying

not much you can do, go back over p1 content and p2 for tectonics, globalisation, physical processes and superpowers because there will be one four marker purely assessed on AO1 and then just i guess make sure you know timings, maths, structure and how to analyse the booklet 🤷*♀️

what was the 2023 paper 3 on?

It was an odd one. carbon.
18 marker - Evaluate the vie that to be effective the mitigation of climate change requires many contrasting strategies.
24 marker - Evaluate the view that the crisis of biodiversity loss is both more serious and more challenging to solve than climate change

for 8 mark analyse should we be coming to any kind of conclusion? like with 18 and 24 you'd have some kind of overarching argument but would you bother with that for an 8?

Do you still need to know content for the 18 & 24 markers or is it more of what you can analyse from the resource booklet?

Is it 2 themes they cover or just 1 in paper 3. Is carbon the only 1 that was assessed in last years paper?

Reply 99

Surely it couldn’t be carbon again if it was carbon last year?
