i also do witch craze - our teacher told us that we could definitely do selective revision for the breadth study but i think that was mainly due to how late we ended up getting onto it (we only finished the science topic in our last lesson before study leave lol) - i am far more focused on theme 1 but i'm definitely gonna spend some time looking over theme 2 before the exam just in case...

Yeah my class was really tight for time as well, we were being taught witches by our teacher who hadn't taught it before so we spent wayyy too long on Pendle and North Berwick and barely any on the later case studies which were harder to grasp... I don't think we covered all the sceptical writings but that still seems easier to go over compared to science. What did you do for paper 1 and 2?

2023 Questions for British Empire

How far do you agree that economic factors were the primary cause of the outbreak of the American War of Independence

The actions of Arabi Pasha and the rise of Arab nationalism were a significant threat to British interests in Egypt in 1882

Source question = assess the value of the source for revealing the problems that faced governor macquarie in New South Wales and his approach to dealing with these problems

Anyone got any predictions for Tudors ?

This is for Lancastrians, Yorkists and Henry VII
I was looking at patterns and I've highlighted red the topics I think'll come up for each paper. There is some easy pattern to see such as in question C. You shouldn't trust patterns but its good to get an idea. Anyone else see any patterns / ideas what'll come up?

The breadth themes for paper 3, is there always a choice in question between themes 1 and 2 or is there a chance they could give two questions that cover theme 2 alone? I do the witchcraze and absolutely hate the coming age of science (theme 2) but i could definitely cope with just changing attitudes (theme 1). Just curious if it's safe to focus on only theme 1? The examiners reports all say that very few people ever choose the theme 2 choice so I doubt they would force us to do it but I wanted to check. Thanks

I would take that bet, I sat the paper last year and didn't revise science and reasoning at all. Apart from 2019 where two theme 1 questions came up, you get given a choice of 1 and 2. It would be very harsh of them to give two questions from theme 2 but I would say try to at least have some basic knowledge just in case.

That's good to know, thank you, do you remember the questions or the source that came up?

Source - Assess the value of the source for revealing the nature of beliefs about the Devil and the justification given for the witch hunt in Salem

Q2 - How far was Prince-Bishop von Dornheim responsible for the extent of the Great Witch Hunt in Bamberg?
Q3 - How accurate is it to say that the re-establishment of traditional authority was the main reason for the end of the witch craze in East Anglia?

Q4 - How far do you agree that the publication of Samuel Harsnett's A Discovery of the Fraudulent Practices of John Darrel (1599) had the most significant impact on changing attitudes to witchcraft in Britain in the years 1580 to 1750
Q5 - 'Kepler, Galilei, and Newton had a limited impact on the ideas and understanding of the universe in the years 1580 to 1750? How far do you agree with this judgement?

Here is my prediction for 35 Britain gaining and losing empire: source question in India and a choice between Canada an Egypt what are your thoughts

I’m praying you’re right, if a question on America or Australia comes up I’ll actually cry. I need Canada to come up, if it does I’ll actually sing the Canadian national anthem after the exam. Also, do you know what came up on the breadth section last year? Apparently they had two trade questions but I highly doubt it’s true
(edited 1 year ago)

Someone please tell me they're also doing 39.1 Civil Rights & Race Relations? I'm predicting that the source question will be about Obama, and the other two questions about Reconstruction & Jim Crow (hopefully).

2023 British Empire Breadth questions

1) How far do you agree that the development of trade with India had the most significant impact on the pattern of trade in the years 1807 - 1914

2) To what extent do you agree that the acquisition of the Falklands and Aden in the 1830s made the most significant contribution to the development of key strategic bases around the world in the years 1783 - 1914?

Thank you so much! I would love a Bamberg question like that but I doubt they'd do it two years in a row

Thank you so much mate. So that's QA - Yorkist Divided 78 - 85, QB - Crisis of 1399-1405 and then QC - Coping with Challenge - disorder and local rivalries and royal income. Obviously not 100% but maybe last minute focus on those subjects is good. I think QA looks quite convincing. GL everyone

i am!! im predicting jim crow, i have a dream and obama cause those have come up the least, 3 times each, whereas reconstructions come up 4 times, also since it came up last year too, and new deal 5 times, also came up last year
rlly hoping new deal doesnt come up cause i couldnt care less abt that section tbh

also do u think ur gonna revise geography and film/tv/books, i might take the gamble and only revise the latter and pray theres a choice between the 2, the geography section never stuck with me for some reason
