Admissions

I've got 3 9's, 5 8's and 1 6 in my IGCSE's. My extracirriculars aren't very strong so are my chances of studying Political Economy at King's mitigated?(considering I get good predicted grades)
And what extracurriculars do you recommend if I may ask

Heyy, I think it depends on how competitive your course and how strong your personal statement is. My GCSEs are worse (achieved 2 7s, 2 6s, 2 5s, 1 4 and 1 3) yet I still managed to get an offer from kings. I did have extracurriculars, but I didn’t mention any of them in my personal statement. My one was solely focused on academics (only spoke about books I read related to my chosen subject). However, I didn’t apply for political economy so I think it depends case by case. But I think you should be okay, just make sure you get the grades they’re asking for and have a strong personal statement!!!

Hii! What's your course and what were your predicted grades if you don't mind me asking? And how many books did you talk about in your PS? The entry requirements for Political Economy is A*AA and I might struggle to meet that with Literature 😭

I got a conditional offer for Philosophy BA! My predicted grades are A* A B. I was actually kinda surprised when I got an offer cause I’m one below the entry requirements but I have been told I have an excellent personal statement so I think that’s what made up for it. In my ps, I mentioned 4 books in total. Also, I just looked up kings political economy Ba admissions rate and of 2021/22 they had an offer rate of 96% (9 out of 10 people got an offer) which is a good sign! Honestly, try your hardest with literature and predicted grades can be negotiated a lot of the times. Also make sure you have an excellent personal statement cause they could still very much give you an offer despite being a grade below required.

Oh lol😭 Congrats on the offer btw!! I haven't read many literature regarding economics yet so that can't go in my PS but maybe in the summer I guess. I've done a few MOOCs on politics and macroeconomics and volunteered at an event for a few days so hopefully that would make my PS better. I forgot to mention I'm an international student so maybe the acceptance rate would be a bit different idk but I'll start working on my PS in the summer I'm already behind 😭 thank you tho I rly appreciate it!!

Okayyy, sorry I couldn’t prove much use to you, I don’t know much about economics😭. Your experiences seem great to add to your personal statement! A tip I got from kings and lse when I was writing my personal statement was to make sure you have some focus on the academic side of the subject, they want to know why you want to study the subject academically! The acceptance rate I found is for both international and home students btw so don’t worry too much. I wish you the best of luck with your application!!!
