feeling worthless despite hard work

growing up i was always told i was amazingly smart and would do so well in life. got top of my year GCSEs, dad passed away during first year of a levels -- completely dropped in motivation from then.
ive always wanted to go to a top uni like KCL, imperial but wasnt able to.. i eventually got an offer from a very meh uni known for taking in people who didnt do well (med with a foundation year due to my circumstances). cant help but feel regret. if i wasnt so depressed last year i couldve went to my dream uni if i studied harder. i wouldnt be in constant self loathing. need advice thanks

I'm sorry for the loss of your father.

firstly why be regretful you've had an very unfortunate circumstance which affected your outcome. at least you're in a med uni. you were depressed/ very sad anyone would after your father's passing,

can be ordered better but the general advice stands
you least worked hard and got a place, you still did work, you still can achieve your dream. going to a prestigious uni may have ups but as a career what matters is how you move forward. many prestigious uni med people will work alongside you and no one will care. what they will care about is you working in a team to adminster the best treatment for the patient.
i make the compirson not because you should care about others but the fact that you all will have the same job with some people going to a low ranking university getting a higher salary, maybe a faster progression career wise.

my advice is to move forward with regards to going to a top uni as it doesn't matter for med. it may for your uni experience but you don't need to loathe as I've said a lot. move forward crezte a better future for yourself

Mate, you got into medical school! That is a big achievement, especially considering what you have gone through! Appreciate you might have wanted to go to a different uni but it really doesn't matter for medicine and you just have to accept what you get, and it is not going to affect your career in the slightest going forward. You have managed to do well despite having to go through something awful, and that it something that people will look up to you for so please try and give yourself some credit too!
