Computer science application for Imperial College London

Hi,

I want to do Computer Science at Cambridge/Imperial/KCL and was wondering what sort of things I should do to to make me stand out and really what things you guys did to get your offers.

Top notch grades are a must.
I'd say demonstrated interest in CS. Did you do a lot of meaningful outside reading/explorations? Mention those in your PS.
Do well in the interview
Do well the admissions test - PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE, start now!

I have done some supercuriculars for computing.

Also would taking about research I did on AI in my EPQ and putting it on my PS be good?

Yes, very much so, but make sure it was significant to you enough and that you frame it in such a way that demonstrates your interest, what you've learned, and your competence.

Wouldn't recommend going into wayyy too much detail unless it's you're best achievement, but make sure that you mention what you learned from it/new insights you've gained, how you found it significant/interesting, no, fascinating. Tie it all back to why you're the perfect candidate for the degree.

PS really wants you to showcase your achievements. I'd maybe try to frame this as an intellectual achievement.

I did Chem so I knew nothing about CS, but you can keep it really simple. For instance, I mentioned how I questioned an equation that my school teacher taught, then did some of my own research, and found that what was taught was a really simplified explanation, and how understanding the actual maths behind it allowed me to better appreciate its link/significance to other areas of chemistry. Show intellectual curiosity and ability to learn knew things.

By the way, this is early, but I have to warn you to know your PS really well, every part of it.

For Imperial at least, they do centre it a lot around your PS. You may think a part of your PS isn't that significant, but that may be exactly what they want to ask you about.

Cambridge is definitely more throwing random questions at you and seeing how well you think.

Does Imperial like EPQs?

Imperial are using the new TMUA as an admissions test from 2025 (next UCAS cycle) onwards so definitely revise that in Y12.
