BA honours in childcare for nursery assistant?

Okay so I am just wondering if getting a degree in childcare is worth it if I only want to be a nursery practitioner assistant or if I should still do the degree online while I work as a nursery assistant just in case

Hi @Keelyyyy

To be a nursery practitioner assistant, you don't need a degree, so it is probably not worth it. In many cases, your experience alone will allow you to get promoted over the years if that is something that interests you.

However, university isn't just about getting a qualification for many people. I have loved doing a BA in Education Studies, mainly because of the learning aspect and the experience. Of course, doing a course online will be a little different from learning on campus, but the learning aspect remains the same. My aspirations for my career path have changed so many times simply because my degree has opened my eyes to a variety of different career options. Of course, having my degree will also open up many opportunities for me too. But overall, when I look back on my time as a student, I feel blessed to have had those years simply to grow, learn, be challenged and achieve.

If you desire to get a degree and you have the circumstances to do so, then definitely seriously consider the option. However, if it is just a 'just in case' situation, then I personally don't think it would be worth it. I am not sure if I would have still chosen to do a degree if being a teacher didn't require it, but having said that, I am glad that I am doing one.

I wish you all the best in whatever you end up doing!
