Uclan Vet med flat mates

Hi I’m Jack
I’m going to Uclan in September to study veterinary medicine and was wondering if any other Uclan vet med offer holders were interested in sharing a flat? I’m looking to book a room in IQ Kopa

Hey Jack,

It's great to see that you will be starting here at UCLan in September to study on our veterinary medicine course! 🌹

If you have any questions about our accommodation, your course or life here as a UCLan student, I'd be more than happy to help. 😊

All the best and we hope to welcome you onto campus in September 😊

Hi I know this isn't the reply you want but it's so hard to find UCLan vet med students threads on here. I was just wondering what grades in what subjects you applied with and how much work experience you applied with. Thankyou!

Hi, I did a BTEC so I’m not sure if I can be much help in terms of subjects and grades, although I’d definitely recommend A-levels over a BTEC if you are comfortable with taking exams because not all vet schools accept BTECs (although if I guess that depends which vet schools you want to apply for because there are a handful that accept BTECs as well as Uclan! And if you prefer course work to exams you might get higher grades with a BTEC, it just depends on personal preference)

For work experience I did 150 hours at a doggy daycare because it was a requirement for my course, I also got a part time job there too after my voluntary hours were done. I did a week at my local vets as well. I wanted to do more but unfortunately a lot of the vets near me don’t really take work experience unless you’re already a vet student/vet nursing student so if you can get more time at a vets practice I’d definitely recommend it because even though I only did a week it taught me so much. I also did a day at a veterinary laboratory and currently work there on the weekends too, which I’m really thankful for and lucky to have been offered because I think it helped my personal statement stand out a bit.

Sorry that this is a really long reply. For Uclan they currently don’t have a minimum requirement for work experience, but some unis do so if you want to apply to other unis as well as I’d definitely recommend checking the course page for how much work experience they ask for. I think ultimately it’s what you learn from the experience and how much you engage with it that matters most. I hope some of this was helpful and good luck!

Hi @srossiter112, 😊

How are you? Fantastic to see that you are interested in studying Veterinary Medicine here at UCLan. Have you had chance to reach out to our course enquiries team yet as they will be able to discuss through the grade and work experience requirements for this course in more detail.

Whilst I haven't studied this course myself I wanted to share with you these two threads that you might find useful - Accepted into UCLan Vet school for 2024 entry - Page 4 - The Student Room & Veterinary Medicine Applicant thread 2025 entry - Page 6 - The Student Room

I hope this helps and do let me know if you have any questions about applying for our BVMS Veterinary Medicine & Surgery course. 😊

All the best,
Sarah
