Similarity score 36% turnitin

Hi,

I am a new student and just uploaded my assignment on turnitin, and the score is 36% which I read that it’s high, the highlights are on the reference list, titles and subtitles.
Should I be worried? My own work is not highlighted, only the titles which comes automatically from the template, and the whole reference list.
Can anyone help me please?

Thanks. So basically I found the tool in turnitin which provides “text only”, have the option to exclude bibliography and direct quotes and the similarity drops to 8-10%. Is this how the tutors use turnitin? Thanks

Turnitin is only a similarity report. Similarity does not equal plagiarism. Similarity means the academic will check the source, to see if it was plagiarism.

Thanks a lot. The remaining sources are 4 and it shows 1% on each, and it says internet source. I was researching all sorts but I did write it down in my reference list and direct quotes as well… hopefully it’s going to be ok as I’m scared, it is my first assignment ever and being doing all by myself, I put a lot of effort, and I really want this degree

That's absolutely fine. Turnitin is trigger-happy to detect similarities and so makes for a very blunt tool to detect plagiarism. As long as any of the things turnitin has highlighted aren't plagiarism, you're in the clear

Hi there

I understand the similarity checker can be quite worrying. However, if you have done your referencing properly, it will be fine. 🙂 My similarity scores have been higher than this before, but if you know you have not copied anything, or have referenced all sources properly, then it is okay.

Hope this helps.
