The Student Room Group

I am a millionaire at 24. AMA.

A pre-tax USD millionaire but still a millionaire. Hopefully to be a post-tax GBP millionaire within a year or so. Source of wealth is bitcoin.

I will answer anything with the exception of questions relating to crypto/bitcoin or which is too identifying.

Has most/all of your wealth been made by selling "courses" teaching people who watch YouTube how to become millionaires by working only 4 hours a day?

Most of it originally came from selling sweets on the playground which was then invested into BTC when it was much cheaper. I also spent all my student loan/bursary/Tescos money on it.

I know it's obvious but all these courses will be BS.

Anything too identifying OR related to crypto. I don't want to come across as shilling stuff or ripping people off.

While I still think btc has a lot of potential the golden age has passed and it's a shadow of the opportunity it was. I also don't know of anything comparable.
How do you plan to use your wealth?

I truly have no idea. I don't have any expensive interests, hobbies etc. It still doesn't really seem real even though I knew this day was coming for years.

At the moment it seems like I am on track for a very regular life but with a bigger house/nicer cars. Travelling the world and spending like 6 months in each country looks incredible but I don't have the confidence yet to do something like this (I have never left England/UK!). I am also very driven and couldn't handle the lack of stress as strange as that sounds.

That seems like a terrible waste when there’s people struggling to survive :frown:

Which one? Working still or not working to spend my time travelling? Other than not working in the UK I can't really think of anything else left!

If you are referring to the lack of charity I think you likely have no perspective on money/how much £1 mil actually is. In some ways it is a lot but long term it really isn't. It translates to a bit more than the median salary each year indefinitely if you're not working.

I also had a worse start in life than the majority if not vast majority of the UK but even if I got handed everything it's my money and my choice what to do with it.

I was referring to the fact that you’ve put so much effort into “making” this wealth with plans to make even more when you “truly have no idea” what to use it for.

Money is only worth what you do with it. If you’re using it as an ego boost or a score card then that’s a waste IMO.

Oh sorry I interpreted that the wrong way!

Yeah you're right and wise, I don't know what to use it for yet and have no particular use but that doesn't mean this won't change in the future. Even now though despite not spending any of it the feeling of security on it's own is great and it helps a lot with confidence in daily life.

Ironically I haven't put much effort into this at all and spent way more than 10x more studying over the years. I've stressed over it a lot but the actual time commitment was non existent. (note to <18 TSR users, there is a 99% chance you will not end up in the same position so stay in school and work hard)
Would you describe yourself as an honest person?
Are you popular with women?

Yes. But then and again isn’t this what a dishonest person would say?

Not really. I don’t advertise my financial situation irl and I’d never date anyone aware of it

Have you told anyone about your wealth? i.e. close family, close friends, etc. Would you be open to telling them (or indeed, anyone else) in the future?
