Question about applying for DPhil (Chemistry)

Hi,

I'm currently on a MSci chemistry program and will be in my final year next year so am beginning to think about what I want to do next.

I've been thinking about applying for a DPhil in chem. I was looking at the Oxford admission page but I'm confused about the application process- for DPhils in general, not just at Oxford I guess. But the application page asks that you submit a research proposal and under which supervisor? This may seem like a dumb question but how am I supposed to know what my proposal will be? Is it something I have to come up with myself? The application page did say there are advertised research projects, does anyone know where these will be when applications open for 2025 entry?

Sorry these are such silly questions, but better to ask than not lol
