Medicine from nursing Scotland 2025 entry

Hi all, I’m a nurse, just qualified. I really want to apply for medicine. If I complete one more year as a qualified nurse I will be eligible for the shortened course offered in Edinburgh. It is 3 years part and I will be paid as a band 5 for the first 3 years. Do I apply this year for 2025 or complete another year and go for the 2026 entry via the scheme.I have no idea what to do. I received a first for my nursing degree but I am worried I won’t pass the gamsat or ucat. Is it something you can revise to pass or is it a case of- you with have the intelligence or don’t? Thanks guys.

I think you need to have worked as a HCP for 2 years before the start of the course, and you apply in the October before the course starts, so i am guessing you would apply next Oct for 2026 entry.
Edinburgh require the UCAT, which cannot be revised for, but you can prepare, as it is generally not like any other exam people have done. Most people use Medify or MedEntry to familiarise themselves and prepare

Hi,
Hope you managed to get answers. Best would be to contact uni's HCP-Med admission teams as requirements slightly vary every year.

Cheers

Hey,
So you have to be working for 2 years as a fully qualified HCP (as a minimum) prior to the start of the course; This would be September.
The UoE website has a lot of great information with details on upcoming open days and virtual events where you can find out more about the course itself, chat to students etc. I'd recommend you sign up for these.
Also, the admissions team are fantastic and there to help so you could always pop an email over to them.

Best of luck. 🙂
