The Student Room Group

6 weeks till my A-levels!! - my GYG blog :))

hii guys!!!
i hope that you are all doing well.

my name is sara, i'm 18, and i'm currently in year 13.
my A-levels are: sociology, history, and business.
my predicted grades were ABB, but i got A*AB in my recent mocks - my aim is to get at least AAA at the end, hopefully with an A* again!

i aspire to study accounting and finance at university - i received all five of my offers!
my firm choice is the University of Birmingham, and my insurance is Aston university.

i apologise if the title of my gyg blog sounds scary lmaoo, it's not even an exaggeration - my first exam (business paper 1) is on the 14th of May

I've been meaning to start a GYG blog for a while now, finally got to it today lol
I will hopefully update here at the end of every day

good luck with all your revision guys, i hope we can have wonderful conversations together, and keep each other motivated <33

hi! thank u so much for your kind words!

do you know of the revision website, tutor2u?
they have model essays and model 10 markers for sociology
so all i do is just memorise them, because the essays go through cover almost all of the content.
if there's anything that they don't cover, i just cover that using a cgp revision guide or other resources.

the essays do cost a lot of money, but some people have uploaded them for free online lmaooo
they honestly saved my mocks, and i hope they save my A-levels too.
if u want, i can message them to you?

other than that, there's a website called the sociology teacher which has summarised flashcards on the different topics, i wouldn't rely on this completely, because there's not a lot of detail, but it is good when you want to gain some extra knowledge, or quickly go through all the topics.

what topics do you do for socio? i would be so happy if you do family or beliefs in society lol
also, what's your revision technique???

ahh that's amazing! i love beliefs in society it's prob my most fav topic
of course, and yesss blurting is literally what i use to memorise

btw how do you actually go about memorising information before you blurt??
i usually summarise each point into a few words, and then read the info 2-3 times, but i was wondering if there was an easier way to go about it

heyy! thank u sm!
for history i found some summarised notes on get revising for paper 1 and paper 2
so i just memorise those and blurt
but for paper 3 i couldn't find any notes like these so i just write my own essays and get them marked by my teacher
then i just memorise those - i'm trying to cover as much content as i can through that essay writing

honestly i feel like blurting is the way to go for history - the level of content is insaneeee
how do you revise???

Heyyy!!

Yeah the content is ridiculous , Ive just started going through and making a timeline which is helpful for understanding what’s kinda going on idk it’s taking so long tho😭 and you are so right about essays because it’s such a good way to get it all down and kind of ordered in an essay format!

Thank you i’m defo gonna start the blurting idea!

And well done keep going!!!
