Children’s Nursing or Mental Health Nursing?

I am looking to start an undergraduate degree in Nursing in September 2024

Currently my UCAS options contain a mix of both Child Nursing and Mental Health Nursing, and I am unsure on which specialty to choose

Does anyone have any advice or suggestions ?
Hey!

Please go with the field of nursing you believe you would enjoy more. Also, look into the career progression routes for both and see what one interests you more

Hello there 👋,

As a student who studies Mental Health Nursing, I know more about this degree. However, I have colleagues who study children's so I know some information about both.

Mental health nursing mainly focuses on holistic care. We spend most of our time considering the importance of communication, the person centred approach, and how we can help improve or stabilise a person's mental health.

Whilst in Children's Nursing, you spend most of your time focusing on children's physical health. You often come across patients who are suffering with their mental health to. Some would say you get the best of both worlds!

Hope this helps.
