First time as Poll Clerk

I've accepted an invitation to become a poll clerk and was wondering what everyone's experience was with doing it for the day? It's going to be very long (6am - 11pm).
I also have a holiday booked a couple days after so is this something I should take up (in case some of you have experienced sleep deprivation after)?
