MC law firms/big city law firms after uni

Do big law firms care about which uni you go to? Whether it be a RG or not and are they likely to hire me as an applicant with a good grade in a future law degree and good a levels but average gcses? (Currently doing a levels)

Hi there

The magic and silver circle firms are likely to consider russel group unviersities more favourably. You are probably able to find some statistics on this if you do some research. However, it does not mean you are not able to get into the big firms if you go to a non-russel group University. Although it may take a longer while, I know some students who have gone to smaller firms to gain work experience before switching to larger firms later on in their future- so it is also possible.

A Law degree in general is quite a competitive degree and career. So whilst average GCSE grades are okay, it will be better to show improvement overtime by getting high A level grades and University marks. Another aspect of applications that employers may look at will be any work experiences.

I hope this helps.
