i do the same texts !! hoping for something nice like taboo/the forbidden but i feel like those have come up too frequently. maybe it could be something like violence? how did you find paper 1?

yeah paper 1 was kind of meh for me too - like nothing went wrong but i feel like my writing style was a lot weaker than usual. i thought the comparative question options were really nice though.

i am! tbh i don't have any predictions as of yet but im hoping something on gender, traditional roles/stories or societal structure.
for the gothic how many links of a03 to other stories would you do in total? also do you link aspects of the gothic passage to dracula and tbc? my teacher says not too as they're our set texts but i've seen exemplars do it successfully so i wonder why she told us to not. its kinda annoying if we can't but i get not linking the gothic solely to them alone

i saw a full mark exemplar that linked to TBC multiple times on the ocr website and that seemed to be fine so i'd presume so. i guess it just has to be a good link, and so obvs if its relevant i think it would be ok. i usually do 1 or 2 links per paragraph but tbh context doesn't make up that much of the unseen so i don't think much more than is needed.

Does anyone have any recommendations on how they memorise quotes? I do Dracula and The Bloody Chamber btw. Should I do it based on Theme? Chronological order or by each short story? By characters? Or should I have some general quotes that I can just chuck in if the questions are all niche?

i make generic essay plans for themes that are likely to come up in some regard + then blurt them. i find it sticks in my head more this way bc then im learning the quotes in context, so they're not just random words.

i would do as many ao3 links as possible, like at least twice in each paragraph... i personally link gothic conventions to the texts since, well, it is kinda the genre lol - it could score ao1 or ao2 points so

i do by theme personally, it feels easier and i feel more confident when planning out essays

i wish i had added more context, especially for the comparative but yeah i agree with you the questions were rather nice enough i think

I think its important to establish context in the introduction of your essay. Its 75% AO2 for the rest of it so just keep intensity high, even if its really basic stuff like use of imagery. In terms of how much to comment on, I like to break the passage down into 4 or 5 sections, then comment on anywhere between 5-15 AO2 points per section (dependong on whether they are significant yk). Hope this helps

I feel like isolation might come up for the handmaids tale- or something to do with relationships/human connections. In terms of 1984 I have no idea, possibly government control? I'm just stressing about the unseen question as that always seems to be my weak point!
