Honestly I just hope the experimental open ended question isn't too hard

An experimental open question?
Do they just ask you to describe a experiment?

Kind of. Its still a use your knowledge of chemistry but the question is often in context and you may need to describe an experiment briefly. From what I've seen, most past papers have one experimental based opened ended question.

How is everyone feeling about the exam? To be honest, I've been prioritising other subjects and haven't done much chemistry yet lol-

Quite stressed about it tbh. I've also been prioritising other subjects and but I was able to do past papers and basic revision. But I have two exams at the start of the week too 😭
At least chemistry is my last exam

It's my last exam so I'm very excited!!!
I've not started revision either, but I'll definetly start revising over the next few days. I'm not taking chemistry next year so I don't really mind what I get as long as it's an A1 (85%+)

"You don't mind what you get as long as it's a A1" :0 !?!!?!
What sort of percent are you on for the other subjects??

Maths - definetly A1
English - probably a low A1 but it could also well be an A2. i find english quite difficult and i was definitely expecting an A2 but the exam went really well for me and my folio was decent, so i think there's a high chance i got an A1
Physics - definetly A1
RMPS - definetly A1
Practical cookery - definetly A2
German - not done the exam yet (I'm doing it in 4 hours time, lol) but I'm expecting an A1
Music technology - honestly i have no idea lol. the question paper went well, but 70% of the course is based on the assignments and i don't really know what sort of mark they'll get. I'm pretty sure I'll get an A but I'm really not sure what sort of A it could be cause i don't really know what the assignment marking is like

I hope you get the grades you want! It would be nice for self pleasure, as on the certificate it only says the grade and not the band.

Anyone know how to prepare for the open ended question

Anyone know how to prepare for the open ended question

There's no way to 'prepare' for the open-ended question because you don't know what it will be about. If you understand all areas of Nat5 chemistry well then you will probably not have any issues with the open ended questions. If your understanding of Nat5 chemistry is lacking in certain areas then you may find the open ended questions more difficult. Just remember these tips:

1.

Save them to the end. You want to write as much relavent information as possible and saving them to the end lets you know how long you can spend on them

2.

Drawing diagram(s) helps a lot

3.

Getting 2 marks is easy, but 3 marks is difficult. Don't get stressed if you can't give a huge amount of information, chances are you're only losing 1 mark.

4.

Don't go off-topic, and don't include information not relavent to Nat5 chemistry

5.

At the end of the day, the open ended questions are in total only worth 6 marks, with the first 4 being very accessible. Don't spend too long revising them, there's usually much better things you can revise

I swear that geraniol boiling point question was impossible, what did y’all put for that

It has a i in it's name? Idk that's the only thing I saw and it's bonding is switched? Definitely wrong though

I put that the intermolecular forces are stronger in the geraniol

Likewise - I had no clue so I assumed it would have to be this

I found it funny that the question ordering four metals in reactivity order based on flow and voltage in a half cell had five rows!

There were 5 metals... a, b, c, d and copper

Had I misread the question? I had thought it only wanted it to order A-D, using copper as reference to their reactivity.
That makes sense though..
