A silly goose’s academic comeback

Introduction
Good afternoon fellow students, time for a cheeky introduction:wink:
Im a current Y13 student in a sixth form, I take Biology, Geography, Psychology and the Extended project qualification and my golly goodness its a lot of work!
Im predicted A*s in Geography, Psychology and EPQ and an A in biology (stupid godam markschemes I’m acc coming for you AQA). Although lets be clear, im currently well settled into my academic flop era. I’ve had a rough time in Y13, i wasn’t expecting the pressure from school, UCAS, EPQ and also expects of my home life to be this extreme and honestly have fallen off my grind. In my January exams I came out with two Bs and a C, and I was devastated. But this has got to change.

I’ve had lots of talks to staff at school and they really want me to focus on taking care of myself as well as preparing for exams. As one of my teachers said, none of this (referring to my grades) can happen if you are doing well yourself, looking after yourself comes at number 1 :colonhash:. So this will be updating by progress not only acddemically but alsolooking after my mental health.

I have uni offers from Durham, Bristol, Notts and Southampton.

Goals
My aim is to get a minimum of three As now considering the circumstances, and hopefully in September ill be off to natural sciences at uni (woooo).
Im planning to attempt to do 4 past papers a week (2 of which will be biology) on top of my normal content revision. Im also going to put more emphasis on my weakest areas of bio- which are the practicals, maths and application skills.
Im going to practice my EPQ presentation every day until the real thing on the 16th! (Tips would be appreciated ).
Additionally im also being entered for my intermediate RAD ballet exam this summer (during july) so i want to keep up good practice for this aswell - its worth more UCAS points than my EPQ!

Plan
I plan to update this minimum twice a week, with what im doing to secure the A grades as well look after myself!
This academic comeback will happen, just slowly as i get back to working

Adios,

I know, it’s so tricky and i see little to no progress compared to my other subjects! Any tips?

you need a good set of flashcards, i only saw myself going from B/C to A*s when i started
using mark-scheme specific flashcards. i’d also recommend blurting key processes at least once a week - eg. transcription/translation
actually learning for exam qs you got wrong, i make them into notion toggles !!

Aaa ok, do you recommend any flashcards, or should i just make one every time i get a practice question wrong?
End of Easter week one update!
Wins

I’ve gone for a walk everyday of this week so far and skipped no meals

I went to a dance workshop

I revised with my friends at the library

I have revised all the topics for psychology paper 1

I have made revision notes for bio and geo

Losses

I was ill and unable to sleep one night, and im ngl i dont think any revision from that day fully stuck in my head

Im still really struggling to pick up marks on the biology practice questions im doing. Im averaging abt 50% and im doing a minimum of 30 mins of questions each day

I need to work on geo paper 1

Overall im pretty proud of myself for averaging around 5-6 hours of work a day while sustaining a life and doing all this other stuff as well!

you should have flashcards that cover content, not just qs you get wrong

you can find pre-made decks on anki + quizlet, you can buy a big pack of online flashcards - there’s some really good ones out there, my friend bought some and she loved them! have a look on tiktok, people tend to link them on there

Guys I got full marks in my geography NEA!! Which has set me up well for the exams.
Additionally, i was able to get my grades up to BBB in my March mocks, so im aiming for AAA in the exams now, i think thats doable? Right?
I’ve made myself a nice lil google calander to organise my revision!
Everything is falling into place now!
