I have a few ideas!
💥 DISCLAIMER 💥I wanna preface this by saying these are all my personal opinions and I really think that you should NOT trust anything I say completely. I'm also not trying to tell anyone to not study certain things for English, this is just a rough guideline of what I think about the trends and what I can evaluate from past papers!!! Also i want to add that for some of these may not be correct as I've had to search the internet to find the 2023 and 2021 past papers.
So far I've noted these past paper questions which you can kinda use to rule out the ones that probably wont come up.
Romeo + Juliet2017 - Juliet
2018 - Tybalt
2019 - theme of Love
2020 - "for which male characters do you have the most sympathy for?"
2021 - "one or two of the relationships in the Capulet family"
2022 - conflict/hate
2023 - Romeo (I think)
Which ends up leaving:
-Mercutio
-Friar Lawrence
-Nurse
-theme of fate
obviously this doesn't mean the other characters or themes will come up, and I also cant confirm whether the question will be "direct" for example "write about how
Mercutio is presented throughout the play" tells you directly who or what you need to write about, but in years like 2020 and 2021, the questions are a little more abstract with the way the question is written e.g.
"write about one or two of the
relationships in the
Capulet family" and so you would have to interpret what its asking you, for example you could write about Juliet and her complicated relationship with her father.
Poetry Anthology2023 - London -
Place2022 - Dulce et Decorum Est -
War/Death2021 - Ozymandias -
Power2020 - Afternoons -
Relationships2019 - A Wife in London -
Loss2018 - Mametz Wood -
War2017 - Sonnet 43 -
LoveIn the anthology there are 3 main themes
-love
-war
-nature
-place
as you can see in the list, last years theme was place so I would assume its pretty unlikely to come up again especially since it was the first "place" poem in the anthology that has shown up in an exam (don't rule out all the "place" poems as they can often be applied with other themes!!) In mine and my English teachers opinion, the theme of Nature hasn't shown up yet, same with love as it has been a while since the last love poem. obviously making exam predictions is very subjective but i hope anyone reading this gets where I'm coming from here.
An Inspector Calls2023 - I couldn't find the past paper for this ANYWHERE!!! but I think I read somewhere on here that it was to do with how all the characters respond to truth in the play, (I'm not 100% thought so don't take my word for it!!)
2022- Eric Birling
2021- Sheila Birling
2020- Inspector Goole
2019- theme of Responsibility
2018- Mrs Birling
2017- Mr Birling
this leaves:
-Gerald Croft
-theme of Class
-theme of Age
-them of Gender
again like I said with the Romeo + Juliet predictions, these characters may come up again and I'm also not sure how the question will be formatted, either directly e.g. "write about Eric Birling" or something like "write about how truth is shown by the characters in this play".
A Christmas Carol2023 - I also cannot find this anywhere but i will speak to my English teacher after half term and update this immediately!!!!!
2022- theme of social injustice/poverty
2021-again, I cannot find

(
2020- theme of redemption
2019- "the Cratchit Family" AKA Bob Cratchit and Tiny Tim
2018- Theme of Christmas
2017- "the ghosts" AKA past, present, yet to come.
Leaving:
-Fred
-Ebenezer Scrooge
-characters that have been grouped together such as Bob and Tiny Tim also might come up separately
Again what I said for Romeo + Juliet and An Inspector Calls, these themes/characters may still come up and I cannot determine the question format.
I hope you find this somewhat useful, and again I am not a very reliable source as making predictions is very opinionated, always take into account your own opinion when revising and thinking about these things.
P.S. good luck everyone doing their GCSEs this year, I hope we all manage to achieve what we want!!!! 💕
