Student finance and maintenance loan

I'm an EU student and get student finance maintenance loan, was recently off work due to health reasons and resigned from the toxic work environment. I have a new job lined up but not until May, so I have a few weeks gap. How are my payments likely to be affected? I was off sick for 4 weeks leading to the end of resignation period. Am I correct to assume that statutory contributions were still made by the employer despite my not getting paid for worked hours?

Hi there,

We need to know of any changes in your employment if you have applied as a Migrant Worker. We will require a copy of your contract of employment and payslips along with sick notes covering the full period of sick leave. MW funding will be awarded up until the date that the sick note ends.

If you have a new job, we will also need a copy of your new contract, and any payslips you have. You can upload this evidence online with a cover letter explaining why you're sending it.

Thanks,
Claire

Thank you for the information. I have right to remain and abode etc as having been in the UK pre 2019 as an EU student. My current full-time employment contract ends the 10th of April, and I have a new job lined up from mid May. I am finished with my in-person studies, now entering into the exams period where I have filed for extensions due to health reasons, and am moving to another area too. As such my situation is unchanged until my notice concludes, but how SFE interprets my circumstances has a central bearing on my choices as it affects what funds I have available. What do I need to be mindful of in concern to the anticipated payment schedule occurring etc? Point being that I need time to relocate and if my support funding is affected I will have to seek alternative employment asap due to the existential financial implications if finance is deducted and not be able to move, incurring expense I can't afford. It's a difficult situation to manage that has stemmed from my employer reneging on the agreed time off to sit my law exams and the lack of income due to my health deteriorating.
I'm still not well and really struggling. Would a further Drs note, which I feel would put me in a better state of health, not be helpful to bridge the few weeks causing the clerical issue of continuous employment? I would technically be out of employment by 10th April, but it would still fall under the same extended illness period. I'm moving to get alleviate the financial burden and mitigate stressors.

Please clarify my circumstances from SFE pov and indicate a best course of action.

Hi there. We cannot say from here exactly how much the funding would be reduced or if this would be impacted as we cannot answer any assessing queries from here, this is calculated and worked out by our assessment team. From here, we can only advise that which was previously mentioned being the evidence you would need to provide for your gap in employment. Once received, this will be reviewed and you will be made aware of any changes. Thanks, David

I understand that in principle, but that isn't answering my question or addressing the circumstances, and frankly it's quite disconcerting to read one robotic 'answer' after the other that gives zero information. As someone that has had rather stressful experience with SFE I find the entire process especially anxiety provoking because circumstances are literally affecting my life and no assurances can be made, no rules are published, no advice is available or offered, and I feel that it's all decided on whims of agents without proper respect for people. For example I don't even understand what I should indicate, to whom, why, or when, besides the understanding of time frames. My next payment is due soon, so what can I expect? I don't know if I will be working in the gap because of moving, and although I have a job already arranged, if I don't get maintenance payments I can't move, and it's doubtful if I would still be able to take the job. I have asked for the process to ve explained, but not has any assurance given as to what I can expect. "Let us know and wait and see" isn't serious information.
I am asking for help to know what to expect.

It's s not difficult. We're talking about 2-3 weeks where I am between employers. What's the scenario?

Hi there,

You will need to submit all your evidence for our assessors to review and then they will make the decision in regards to your entitlement.

Thanks, Drew

Hi there. I understand you are facing a difficult situation, but as previously advised, we cannot offer any assessing guidance here. The Migrant Worker team would require your P45 from your previous job and your new contract and payslips (if available), and evidence covering the full the sick period. This would need to be reviewed first before we can determine if the funding would be affected. Thanks, Leah.

I don't understand what you are saying?
What does "need to be reviewed first" mean?
What are my obligations in regards to when I indicate changes? Surely I can only indicate changes after the fact!

Hi there,

The Migrant Worker team review and determine your eligibility based on the evidence. We can only advise on what to send as we're not assessors. If you send the evidence and then wait for an update from the team. Thanks, Jason

Can you please indicate how that process is triggered? Am I waiting to be contacted prior to the next scheduled payment, or is it about my notifying upon changes occurring? I need to know because it is affecting my circumstances if I need to wait weeks and weeks. I feel that the inflexibility and discrimination of the 'system' brought to foreign students is rather unhelpful and I don't find any reassurance or support in the information provided by SFE at any point.

Hi there,

To be eligible to get the finance as a Migrant Worker, you need to be in continues employment while you study. If they're any changes in employment, it is the students responsibility to update us. We have advised above the evidence you need to send which you can upload online in your account under the evidence upload option. This link shows you how here https://youtu.be/rOMx_EG5JWk

The team will review your evidence and update your application accordingly. If they need anything else they will email you.

Thanks,
Claire

Please be clearer and use unambiguous language to explain what you exactly mean by "any changes"!?

Hi lnx27,

This refers to changes to your employment such as leaving your job or changing your contracted hours
